I have a chance to possibly pick one up this weekend, have heard mixed reviews on them, it would fill a hole in my 1911 collection, my question to you guys what is your opinion of them? anybody have any personal experience with them? just thoughts in general I guess. Thanks

I've never heard of Ruger not standing behind their product so I don't think there are too many worries about that.

I'll be grabbing the next one I see.  And I own 1911s from Para to Baers.

Thanks guys for the replies, like everything there are people who wont like this or that for whatever reason, didn't think it would hurt to bring up the subject in here though just to be on the safe side, still weighing my options.

I'm a gunsmith, and I've built/fixed more 1911's than you could possibly imagine.  Every last Ruger I've seen has been made VERY well.  I've had several customers bring them into me, but not one has been brought in because it didn't work; always some sort of custom work.  So I've layed hands on a good sample of the Rugers and I'm pretty impressed; they're very nice guns.

If by some chance you get one that doesn't work, Ruger will make it right every time, so there's really nothing to worry about.

I've been carrying a LW Commander (S&W) for the past 14 years and I find they're just about ideal for daily carry in an IWB holster.

Thank You 3030 that helps a lot, still trying to figure out for sure what I want to do.

The LW RUGER has pretty much been my daily carry ever since I got it !
I did swap out the trigger for a flat one. And put some VZ alien grips on it.

I actually bought a Milt Sparks Axiom holster for it !
I can't say enough about that holster.

Thanks guys for the replies, still kind of weighing my options, I placed a WTB ad in local classifieds and there are still offers coming in so I just kind of want to see what turns up and make sure I am being somewhat patient and not missing out on something.

I decided I wanted to go back to carrying a 1911 and in particular a LW commander.

I chose the Ruger in large part due to the overall quality compared to a comparable Springfield.

It's well made, has all the items that are now common on a modern 1911 (relieved ejection port, extended safety and slide release, skeletonized hammer, beaver tail grip safety, flat mainspring housing and bumped grip safety).

Mine has demonstrated good combat accuracy and has been relentlessly reliable.

The only major change I've made is adding night sights.

A Friend let me shoot his new Ruger LW Commander in 9 MM.   Made me miss my ole Colt Combat Commander but I'd really like to have a new Ruger LW in 9 MM, 45 would be good but I just don't have a 1911 in 9 MM.

Haha, I wish.  Just 10 yard social shooting distance.
