If not, having shot one will suffice.

I had a Wilson Tactical Supergrade on order for two years, but my GSD needed a new hip. So I cancelled it and got a refund. (Yes, it sucked.)

Next year, I'd like to buy another 1911. I don't have the coin for another Supergrade, so that's gone forever.

I'm considering a CQB or a SA Professional.

I've heard some think the trigger is too heavy on the SAPro.

Anyone shot both?  I don't I'll be able to find both to shoot, so I'm going to have to Internet this one.

I have a clone built by SACS. The trigger is 3lbs. With a little leaf spring tuning you can get it down 0.5-1 lb lighter.

I know Les Baer, Ed Brown and Nighthawk make beautiful, well functioning 1911s.

I really have my heart set on a SA Custom or a Wilson.

Always have.

You're completely right by mentioning it, I'm just being unreasonable because I've always wanted one of each of those two.

Sure would have been nice to have that Supergrade...

Quick funny story while I'm waiting on answers:

So my best shooting friend found out about my situation. ("How are you going to afford that?" Followed by "But that's your dream gun!")

So we're having beers two months after, and he relates his wife's reaction.

Buddy's Wife:  "That sucks. I love Whiskers. You should just get with his friends and buy it for him!"
Buddy: "No way!"
Buddy's Wife:  "You are so cheap. The three of you could just each pitch in and make that happen! It's his dream gun!"
Buddy: "...and priced accordingly. It's a $6k gun. You want me to pull out two grand and just give it to Whiskers?"

Silence

Buddy's Wife: "You two have a real problem...."

I have both--a CQB and an SA Pro.  I consider the Pro to be to be the alpha male of my 1911 collection--mostly, I guess, because of its heritage--FBI. DEA etc.
Retained value of the Pro is also a big consideration. Yes, it has a relatively heavy trigger >4 lbs, but it's a combat ready combat handgun and a low trigger pull wouldn't be appropriate.

The CQB is very nice, wth a trigger pull a pound less than the Pro.  I don't shoot it well because of the sighting system. The factory installed gold bead is near the middle of the front sight and that confuses the crap out of my shooting technique. The CQB is obviously a quality handgun and any issues I might have are probably my own doing.

I'd sell the CQB in a heartbeat if I could get a decent return (80-90% of purchase price). I could get more than I paid for it for the Pro.

For value, the Les Baer product line is pretty hard to beat.

So your vote is SAPro? How's the trigger compare to a standard Loaded SA1911?

Can't do the Led Baer. No reason, no hate, just always wanted one of those two. I need to check a box, basically.

In for pics.

If I had the budget to buy a pro there would literally be no other 1911 on my radar.  It is the perfect 1911 in my opinion..custom quality with rugged, yet simple aesthetics.

For now my humble Gold Cup NM will have to be the prized 1911 in my collection.

Not a pro......but a SACS full build.  IMHO SA custom shop makes some of the best "purpose built" semi custom 1911's on the market.

Thanks.  I have never owned a Wilson....I have shot em/used em but dont own one.  The SACS guns are not in the same ball park as a loaded....or even a TRP.   Having owned from the milspec line all the way through , the custom chop guns are hard to beat.   Racking the slide feels like its on oiled glass....you get the impression that the gun is built right...not overly tight....but snug enough to wear in properly.

That's great feedback.

I've owned, gifted, and shot many 1911s. Especially Springfield.

Just never had trigger time in their custom line.

Sounds like it's the difference between my GI and my Loaded, to put it in perspective.

I like that. That's the difference I'm looking for.

You won't go wrong with Springfield Custom Shop pistols. I have a Pro, and two other custom shop pistols build on basic Mil-spec 1911. All three have trigger pull at around 4.5 lbs. That's pretty standard for carry gun. Anything below 4 lbs pull will be too light for my liking. Although no experience with their warranty service personally, I have no doubt that Custom shop will make you happy to adjusting your trigger if you get a Pro or any SACS pistol and it is not up to the standard.

I have owned every level of Springfield 1911's from the GI to the Pro's.Only one that has escaped me is the TGO-1,a higher level than the Pro.
I do have to say the fit of the current Milspecs is pretty dam impressive!

Ive owned 1911's from all the semi custom brands. My two favorites,Wilson CQB's and Springfield Professionals.Currently own both.
Both function without issue, the Wilson seems to lose in the grip department due to the finish, one tends to sweat in the hands in this arizona heat.
The Pro with its sharp checkering gets extra point here.Cosmetics go to the Wilson.
Wilson has a lighter trigger, yet i shoot about the same with either.Bullseyes are easier with these two 1911's than others i own.
My kids also love these two, older son gravitates to the Wilson, younger one to the Pro.

I had one Wilson that i put in excess of 40,000 rounds thru with only spring changes.Im a Wilson believer. My most used Pro is nowhere near that, but is running
without issue.
Which would i have if i could only keep one....cant go wrong with the Wilson, but im enjoying the Professional a bit more.

Sorry Im late to the party

Professional is a great gun

Buy with confidence

Mine is around 4 to 4 1/2 pound trigger. Its nice and crisp, and definitely not too heavy for a gun that is meant to be carried and used defensively. Honestly its right where I want it

Honestly you cant go wrong either way.

Wilsons seem to be a dime a dozen. Lots of em out there. Not near as many Professional models out there, and also the Professional model has a hell of a back story to em.

Mine has been great and it has a boat load of rounds through it. Seen several high round count classes. Was carried daily for years.

I now opt for the slightly smaller BHP, honestly, for ammo reasons. I can shoot a lot more 9mm than I can .45.

Im more accurate with the 1911 that said. Honestly it seems 9mm just isn't as accurate as .45 ACP. Im not sure if its due to the volume produced of 9mm and less QC, or if the round itself is just inherently less accurate. Its not a lot, but noticeable at 25 yards on a bull. I have to use premium ammo such as 147 grain gold dot to get near the accuracy I can with 230 ball with a 1911

One day Ill go back. I just needed a break from the .45 platform for awhile.

This thread, and others, makes me want a 1911 again, and also confirms for me I'm taking my HiPower to the range next time.

A picture not related all that much to the topic, but what the heck.  I know nothing between the differences of a PRO and a CQB, but I'd be all over a CQB if I could afford one.  I'm with you OP,  for some reason these two companies stand out as the ones to have, for me.  Not even sure why.  Although springfield is in my Dad's home state and I've got a friend that loves Wilson's.

I really like both pistols.

Im honestly not sure I am faster with a 9mm, or atleast not with the BHP which as a rather long reset. That said the BHP doesn't fatigue me like the 1911 does with volume shooting.

I have avoided shooting IDPA the last several months while I warmed up with the BHP,( I also took my ROs daughter out a few times and I have also avoided that situation). I think Im just about to the point to where I have learned the gun well enough to give it a shot.

There is a IDPA match this Saturday. I was thinking about going and shooting both and see where things fall.

Well see

They stopped taking work until 01/17....but they are still taking orders for full custom builds.  My Custom carry 9MM should be in late next month after a 1yr build.  A TRP is a hell of a choice...i owned one for years and still regret selling it.

Im a big Springfield fan.  After owning a champion of theirs and a couple 1911s from other folks i decided to take the plunge on a full custom gun. I wanted a pro railed, but i wanted to change enough things about it that i went to nighthawk instead. Since i was working at a store and selling a lot of them it seemed like a natural decision.
Well,  5 months past the quoted ETA it arrives and it's missing finish inside the magwell and isn't built to the spec i had requested (parts).  This is a much longer story,  but the short story is i sent the gun back for a full refund.
Called up Springfield Custom Shop and talked to them about a Pro.  Again i wanted to change things and they suggested i just order a Custom Carry instead, the way i wanted it.  Said it would be every bit as much gun as the professional just without the strict accuracy guarantee the fbi had for it.

4 months later i had my SACS custom carry in my hand.  It's been dead nuts reliable and accurate and i carry it often.
I'd do a custom carry rather than wait for a Pro to come in.

I have a Pro. Buddy has the railed Pro. Also owned an Ed Brown, which I sold. You can't go wrong with the Professional, it's built to be a shooter. Trigger is far superior to a stock loaded. I will probably swap the rear sight for a Harrison someday as I like the ledge.

Also had SACS build up a MC Operator that I have Professional $ into, but it's just the way I want it.

Also wanted to add. The Professional was my Grail gun. Paid the LEO dealer cost of $2318.00 and waited 25 months.
It was worth it. If the lore of the professional doesn't matter, the custom carry can be built to your exact specs, with the same quality, and in less time.

I had the rear of my slide serrated on my operator to match the rear sight, and had the front strap undercut. Two examples of things I wish the Pro had.
9/26/2016 10:48:29 PM EDT
[#39]
I have a pile of 1911s, Baer, Brown, Wilson, Dan Wesson, SA Pro, and a Guncrafter No Name, now sold. All great guns, most have been reworked a bit. John Harrison did some work on the Pro, then Lou at Business End Customs undercut the front strap.

Something to consider when buying a 1911, at any price point, the size and shape of the frames can vary greatly by manufacture. This is especially true of Baers and the SA Pro. The 20 LPI checkering on the Pro is uncomfortable for some, as is the transition from front strap to trigger guard. Be sure to handle them before committing the cash and the wait time.

Having waited for the Pro and handled a number of Supergrades, I would opt for a Wilson CQB and pick the options you want. Wilson makes a good, consistent pistol, has has options to cover most tastes and these days, can have the gun in your hands in well under half a year.

Does the Railed Pro count?  Was my Unicorn, couple years ago had the cash to get one.  Thought I had one lined up from a private seller but something made me back out of the deal.  So I had the cash but didn't want to wait.  Bought a Wilson CQB LE. Great gun as one would expect from a Wilson. Changed the sights and added an ambi safety.  But in the end it was not what I 100% wanted.  Finally tracked down a new Railed Pro so I sold the Wilson to get the Pro.  The Pro does have a noticeably heavier trigger pull.  But I like that. Both guns are very accurate, more so than me.  The edge going to the Pro. I like the finish on the pro better. The biggest difference is the bbl bushing.  It is crazy tight on the Pro.  Need to use the tool to get it off still. In the end it alll boils down to personal preference and how long you are willing to wait for one.
