New to 1911s, just bought my 1st, a Springfield Stainless RO .45. My question is this: there is a bit of wear on the sides of slide in front of the dustcover. It's even on both sides and only just in front of the dustcover maybe an 1/8 of an inch. Is this normal? I put about 200 rounds through it. If it's normal I don't care just want to make sure it's normal. Thanks.

It really shouldn't be scratching the dust cover. Will effect anything more then likely no. But not normal pics would help out tho for a better answer. Also Springfield will usually fix these issues if you give them a call. Their customer service is excellent.

Keep shooting it. Almost broke in. Slide feel like it's on ice yet? It should be that smooth when it's broke in. Light grease on rails.

Reread post, one of mine, a custom build has a bit of wear there but not an 1/8 inch. How's the fit?

Seems to fit fine. Even spacing on both sides. Fires fine, very accurate. Just that small bit of slide wear, maybe smaller then an 1/8 inch and even on both sides. One thin I noticed, just racking the slide did not seem to cause any marking. Only after it fired 200 rounds.

I wonder if the dust cover clearance is a little tight and as the rails wear in the slight bit of added movement is allowing light contact.

^^ that's what I'm saying it is not normal to get scratches on the dust cover. Chances of it causing issues is slim but it will get worse and worse of a mark as you shoot it. I have seen plenty of cases of Springfield fixing this issue its not a big deal.

Probably is best to get SA to fix it. The finish can be matched and the value preserved. What kind of turnaround time is he looking at?

I don't know what their backlog is but I would guess around 3-4 weeks maybe more maybe less. Have to calll and find out. But Springfield is usually pretty quick on warranty work.
