Either a Gi rod or a Wilson 1 piece full length the 2 piece rods are more of a pain in the A then they are worth even the best are still junk

I have an STI two-piece. It works fine, but all it has to do is guide the spring. There's no moving parts, so I fail to see how one would be "crappy"?

These work well.  https://dawsonprecision.com/guiderod-1911-5-bull-barrel-tool-less-by-dawson-precision/

If you like a full length guide rod, get a one piece. Easier to take down.

When I say "Crappy"..... It looks good. It's stainless, two piece with a plug and allen wrench. It worked fine at first but, after refinishing the gun, the backing lug is rubbing on the frame and the slide. I can feel it binding when I assemble it. And then, I cross threaded it a little bit and munched the end of the thread. I tried to fix that with a file and the little bit of thread that was damaged cracked off and fell away.

It's pretty crappy.

Assuming you do not have a bull barrel, throw it in the trash and install a standard GI guide rod and end cap.

And if you have a bull barrel, install a one piece rod.  The BUL/Kimber one Brownell's sells is a good part.  There is no reason IMO to own a two piece rod, they are nothing but a pain in the ass.

I have absoulutely no trouble with my 2 piece tungsten rod. I like the extra weight at the muzzle. To each his own.

De-grease the threads and tighten them up.

They either unscrew when you least want them to, or they are a bastard to unscrew when you need them to, or you never have a hex wrench when you may happen to need it.

These are my experiences with them.

Wilson one piece can be taken down without any tools, just has a modified plug.

I replaced my Springfield Loaded two piece with a GI plug and guide.

Here to say that I joined the GI rod and cap bandwagon like 10 years ago and very looked back. Makes it nice to be able to field strip your gun without tools.
