230 or 185 Grain Ammo? I understand the 185 grain with the slightly shorter barrel allows for faster follow up shots and less stove pipes.

I have shot 185 gr in my SA RO compact, even though they recommend 230.  It worked fine, I still prefer 230 and that's all I shoot anymore

The 230 is thought to be a better choice for reliability in the 4 and 4.25" guns due to the slower slide speed.

I have had better luck with 200 grain then anything in guns 4" and under. It is what Bill Wilson recommends you shoot and I have found it to be true. Also if your running an aluminum frame 200 grain seems to have less felt recoil. 200 and less grain ammo actually slows down the slide speed which is what you want in a compact 1911.

I shoot cheap 230gr at the range, and carry 185gr Hornaday Critical Defense, in my Ed Brown Kobra Carry.  It doesn't seem to care what I feed it.

I shoot everything in my steel framed 1911's. They just don't care. Even the 3" Officers model eats everything.
I've only got 2 lightweights, one in .45 and one 9mm. They eat everything too, but the .45 gets a steady diet of hand loaded 200gr SWC's and 185gr Golden Sabers.

I have a STI Ranger II and Colt LW Commander both in 45ACP. I use 230 gr HPs in both. I had to tune the extractors in both to get 100% reliability with HPs. But since doing that they both run just fine with 230gr HPs..

All I shoot in my Wilsons is 230 gr ball and 230 gr ball-shaped JHPs.

Target Shooting, Paper  = 200 grain SWC.   (I load 4.4 grains of Green Dot, lots of guys like W231)
Target Shooting, Steel plates = 230 round nose

SD/Carry = 230 Gold Dot.  230 HST, Win Bonded, or Ranger T are also acceptable as long as they are 230 grain.
