I saw one of these at the SA gun show yesterday. Nice looking piece, seems like it would make a good carry gun (if you're into 1911's.) The article says an MSRP of $899, but the pistol at the show was marked $795. If I hadn't gotten a new Rail Gun for Christmas I would have been very interested.

The series 80 and that proprietary dual recoil spring that's tuned for hardball with NO replacements on the market are not really going to appeal to any competition shooter.

As in literally NOT. ONE. GUY.

Who the fuck comes up with this shit??

I've yet to run into a serious competition shooter with one.

Colt is obsessed with the 80 series firing pin block, and fails to realize the only guns that increase in value are the ones without it.

I think I've sold all my S80 Colts.

Colt, get your shit together damn it!

Hmm, how can we troll them so that they will take note of what people actually want from them, because they seem to be stuck in the 90's at best and worse almost doing the opposite of what the current market wants.

It's not hard, put out some reasonably priced plain semi-auto M4's w/auto bolt and series 70 1911's. Hell here's an idea, sell stripped receivers and parts kits? At least you would be moving product...

Those slide serrations are terrible. Nix this fucking thing and bring back the XSE goddamnit. At least that was CA approved. Why would you shitcan a CA approved gun for LITERALLY THE SAME GUN (with different sights and grip panels) that isn't CA approved? Makes no goddamn sense.

:/

Dual recoil spring stuff is fine though, but whatever.

What competition is this for?

I don't know anyone (USPSA shooters) who would pick this for single stack.

Bullseye? Or some other stuff I don't even know about???

Can I shoot my usual 200gr SWC H&G 68 loads through it with the dual recoil spring?

The way those guys "think" (and I use that term VERY loosely), I could totally see that now....

What is everybody's hard-on about Series 80 firing pin safeties? They certainly don't impede a good trigger job if the person knows what they're doing.

Because it's what everybody else says too.  Echo chamber.

I don't mind them either.

Red: I realize most of their 1911s are S80, but don't they already do both of these things?  When was the last time Colt sold an M4 with a non-auto carrier?

Blue:  Parts kits - Hell Yes!  Stripped lowers - F-NO!  It would do nothing but flood the market with "Colts" jammed full of junk parts, and further tarnish their name.

Typical discussion of any Colt 1911; fine whines served without any cheese ( a nice Gouda would do).

I got to look at one at my LGS today. I liked the blue FO front sight.

I don't know much about 1911s, but I want one.
I was originally looking at the Gold Cup National Match, however those are $1k+ typically.

Then this came out and I was interested, but this thread doesn't seem to like it.
I don't know if I would compete with it, but I like the adjustable sights and FO, and the price of the Competition.

I do have ~2k of SWC just waiting to be reloaded for whatever 1911 I pick up, but now I don't know what to do.

It will be a great pistol. It only lacks the more expensive finish. Beat up and scarred Gold Cups are not that attractive and expensive to refinish. The new finish will wear well and be much easier to refinish when it's time.

The CCP will be a great pistol.

Swap the recoil spring for a GI assembly. Even if you need the spring, plug, and rod you're talking a maximum of $30 with shipping to be up and running.

I was looking at the new/reproduction(?) series 70 Gold Cups, not originals. http://www.colt.com/Catalog/Pistols/Series70.aspx, the O5870A1 model.
