Hey guys, I'm looking to buy myself a nice gun. I've not owned a 1911 is many years (Taurus PT1911) and have decided to get a 1911. My other guns are working guns (Glocks) this will be a safe queen, cleaned after every outing and maybe carried once in a while.

I first looked at the Sig Nightmare and I happened across the Springfield Armory Operator MC with VZ grips. I fell in love needled to say. Very nice gun, felt great in my hand and looked tough as nails to boot!

Because I'm not up to speed on the 1911 platform, is this a good model? I want a well made 1911 that holds value well. Not that I plan to ever sell but I want to buy right the first time around.

Here is the gun, I took the pic.

Top notch production 1911 and you would be hard pressed to find a better gun at that price point, and probably well beyond.  I've owned a couple and stupidly sold them as I have an undiagnosed condition to buy/sell/trade guns for no good reason.

Its everything you could ever need if you have one 1911: series 70, light rail, all needed bells/whistles, and springfield's unmatched warranty and customer support.

Absolutely love my SA MCO.

I have an older MC Operator with the Pachmyer grips.  Really really solid gun.
Mines is one of the nicest production 1911s I have had.   My EDC is a Dan Wesson ECO.  The MC Operator is our house gun.

Yup...though if it comes with their ILS mainspring you may want to consider replacing it with the traditional setup.  Helps trigger pull a little and gets rid of nanny state bullshit

Bought one last month.  Not cheap, but it had most of the features I wanted.

I'm really happy with it.

Only thing I plan on doing to it is adding a S&A mag guide.

Got in on the surefire sale for the light.

Love mine as well. Considering getting the newer version as well to go with my current one

Had my 4" SA LW Operator for a few years now.  Good to go out of the box and shoots better than I do.  Saw no need for any upgrades other than VZ grips and a TLR light.  Minus the light, it even carries well concealed in the right circumstances.

Highly recommended.

Thanks for the replies, looks like this is the one I will go for.

BTW, what is an ILS spring? Mentioned above.

This is my problem too, that's why I try to buy right so that if I do sell, I recover most of what I spent. But, honestly, this looks like a keeper.

One of my favorite pistols.  I ditched the ILS MS housing, Added a 10-8 rear sight, solid Greider trigger, a Wilson strong side safety. Great shooter.

A locking system built into the mainspring housing.  Kinda like the locks on S&W revolvers.  You can dump it and replace it with a regular MSH.

My older version.  Currently at the 'smith getting some minor teaks - 10-8/Dawson sighs installed and swapping to Wilson BP single sided safety.  Great fun to shoot very accurate, eats anything I feed it.  Also Pre-ILS :)

I've had mine for roughly over 6 years and mine has never had any issues to date. I've taken a few classes with it and have shot local matches with it as well. I also had a few Kimbers back in the early 2000's and sold all of them after I got my MC Operator. Only other 1911 I've kept in my Wilson Combat. I'd like to add maybe 2-3 more 1911's into my collection one day but, the SA MC Operator is definitely one that's going to stay a really long time.

What's the new front-strap treatment like?  The 20lpi on my TRP is heaven and the plain front-strap of the MC (up until now) and LB Operator has turned me off of them somewhat.

I have a 2015 production MC Operator and it has become my favorite gun by far. Extremely accurate and runs 100%.  It now wears an X300 Ultra and is my nightstand gun.

Any one interested in this one before I post it over in the EE? Bought it back in September and have put 200 rounds through it with two range trips so far to break it in. Wanted to have it to go along with my Colt M45A1 but yesterday I stumbled across a new in the box HK P7M8 that I have been incredibly horny for for a long time. This one needs to go to replenish the bank account after that draining yesterday.

It is in absolutely perfect condition, freshly cleaned, greased, oiled and in the factory case with two mags and all accessories, tools and paperwork that came with it. Can provide any other pics or info you need.

My LGS has it for $1069 plus tax. I think that's pretty good for what I've seen online. I stopped to look at it again today. A friend is buying a rifle from me and has not paid me all yet so I'm still a little short.

Yes, an Operator is about the only SA I would be interested in.

'I have an undiagnosed condition to buy/sell/trade guns for no good reason.'

I hear what you're sayin', brother. I've sold 4 in the last couple of years. I seem to be in one of those phases where I'm saying 'Why have I had this freaking thing for 20 years?' But at least I'm replacing them with new stuff!
