| New to the 1911 platform, just got back from the range with my new Rock Island GI 1911A1. It ran flawlessly and was quite accurate too. I noticed the empty cases seem to have a random ejection pattern. Some would go 6' -10' up and back to the 4 or 5 o'clock position and others would go 3' to 6' to the 3 o'clock position . My CZ75 in 9mm will throw them all in the same direction about the same distance. So is this normal for a 1911 ? Ran 100 rds without a failure of any kind, just curious. -Thanks |
| you might check the extractor tension... remove the slide, and push a cartridge up under the extractor hook... it should slightly droop.... if it slips off, you will probably want to add a little more tension...remove the extractor, and reverse the end so you can use the slide for leverage... carefully apply a little pressure to slightly bend the extractor...go easy... if you have a Weigand pull gauge I like between 16 and 24 oz....I typically radius the bottom of the hook at the same time, and polish the nose... make sure it is not bumping the barrel at the extractor clearance cut.... once the extractor is set up, you an look at the ejector nose itself, and possibly do some angle work |

Extractor tension and extractor clocking.
The firing pin stop holds the extractor from rotating. Most factory stops allow the extractor to rotate from shot to shot. By starting with a slightly oversize firing pin stop you can remove tolerance and minimize rotation of the extractor. |
