Hello All,
I am looking for a quality heirloom type of 1911 but a nice shooter for the range. I want something that I can pass on and of course while I am still here shoot great. I have been looking at mainly springfields and colts...and a Dan Wesson. I am eyeballing a Colt O1070XSE XSE Colt O1070XSE XSE Government 45 ACP 5" 8+1 Double Diamond Rosewood Grip SS - Impact Guns or this blemish Dan Wesson www.kygunco.com/dan-wesson-blemished-pointman-seven-45-acp-pistol-5in-stainless-8-round-cocobolo-grips-98404 Now, I really want something that shoots great and is reliable. I know these are alot of wants out of one gun but for 1000+ in these days and times I really should get that. What do you guys recommend and/or think? |

Colt is what is going to hold value and be in demand .
Many of the "other" brands are good or great guns but there are lots of folks who will only consider the original . 1911s can be a bit tricky , some brands and models are set up right from the get go but lots of them need a bit of tweaking . The thing is to find a gunsmith that has a reputation in 1911s I have a full sized and a officiers model Colts that I had my guy do some trigger work and some ramp work/general reliability work .Nothing crazy , with trigger parts and the work I remember it being $80-$100 per gun ten or fifteen years ago. Both of these guns have been great shooters and trouble free for lots of years and lots of shooting . Lots of different brands and level of value out there. I have also owned some Rock Island guns and they were great shooters and a great value |
| If you want an heirloom 1911 along with the other factors you mentioned, I suggest you consider saving some more and buy a 1911 that you don't see everyday. Of course you could look at a truly custom 1911 but cost will be way beyond what you would like to spend. Wilson and Ed Brown would also make excellent heirloom guns but again price would be considerably more. A Les Baer might be the ideal answer to what you want. You don't see them everyday at the range and they are known for their accuracy and durability. Good luck in making your decision. |

Depends on what you want. A Wilson or Baer would be a great choice. Or go Colt and get something like a Combat Elite Now there are those who consider it ok to buy super fancy guns and shoot them. My father bought me the factory engraved 1911 in my avatar and told me to shoot it. And it will be shot prior a bunch prior to the day one of my bous gets it. |
