I received my 1941 Colt 1911A1 back from George Roghaar yesterday. Link to archived thread He stripped the nickle off and refinished it in zinc parkerizing. It turned out great, looks like a proper USGI pistol again. Range time tomorrow!

Very nice. I'd have that done to my GI Colt, but the slide has been cut for an adjustable sight so it can't be restored to GI condition anyway.

While I am generally in the never refinish a classic, if it was previously bumper chrome or nickel, you made a tremendous improvement. Nicely done

And the correctly-blued barrel adds a lot of authenticity to it. Nice job. I consider that a 'save'!

Very well done.  It is good to see that most of the stampings look nice and sharp.  Major improvement over the old nickel.  Lets hear a range report.

You may have some righteous disdain for the chrome plating job, but it appears to have accomplished its goal and protected the metal for 70 years.   I've seen so many parked and blued GI 1911s just completely ruined from ignorant owners storing them improperly.

Congrats!

Mister George's shop did a damn fine restoration!

Makes me jelly.

Went to Atterbury today, brought the Garand too. It worked great, fired 10 full mags. Had one failure to feed with a cheap aftermarket mag, all the old USGI mags i had worked great. Fired a mix of USGI Remington ammo and WWB. Have been shooting mostly Glocks lately and haven't fired a 1911 in awhile, so it took a few mags to get back on track with the 1911. After that I was able to shoot some decent groups. Gun shoots very smooth, trigger is decent, ejection is good.

I forgot how bad those tiny sights are! I had to adjust my eyes a few times to see the sights/target. I also need to get a new mag release button for it. The old one is heavily worn and very smooth, probably from when it was buffed before being plated. It was a good day today, got the old war horse back in respectable condition and put some rounds downrange with a couple WW2 classics.
