Is there a good parts/repair kit anyone would recommend?  Something that includes common springs and other various small parts that require replacement eventually just to have on deck in case of the need for a quick fix.  Thanks in advance for any replies.

what is the gun used for?

the part kit for a light range use gun would be completely different than say an IDPA or IPSC gun, or a backup woods gun.

EGW pin kit, a Spare Fitted extractor, recoil spring. Should cover you for most problems.

Wolff spring kit
10 Performance, or EGW Pin Kit
Spare Extractor

Should be good enough.

The extractor is the Achilles heel of the 1911 so a spare FITTED extractor is key perhaps some spare recoil firing pin springs and that is about it. The 1911 is a very durable design with most parts crapping out only after many years and tens of thousands of rounds. Keep in mind except springs if a part on your 1911 breaks there is a very high probability the replacement will need hand fitting for best performance.

odd part part I've replaced on 2 of my comp 1911s, the spring for the thumb saftey and slide stop. I re used the pins as the new ones did not fit.

A couple of parts tend to break more often than others, e.g. the firing pin stop and extractor.

Others just tend to get lost when fieldstripping, especially the plunger assembly and the spring guide plug.

Just a range gun.  Looks like I'll grab the spring kit, pin kit, and extractor.  Thanks all for the info.

Me personally I have an entire rebuild kit ready to go. Full spring kit including sear from Wilson. An entire pin kit, extractor, firing pin and block, sear and disconnector. Just in case lol

Extractor has to be fitted and tuned, tho.
