Is the GI and the Mil-Spec the same? Seen here? http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/32592 a guy I work with wants to get rid of the one listed for $400. Says he shot it once. Fo? I have a Springfeild 1911a1 and a few others. but do I need this? No. it this a deal? |

If you want it get it 400 not a bad price, me I would pass as base models do nothing for me. |

| I had one and don't miss it in the least. While I appreciate the aesthetics, simplicity, and nostalgia, I simply did not enjoy shooting it. Tiny sights, dinged up brass, hammer bite, uncomfortable grip safety, etc. While all those issue could have been fixed it wasn't worth the time and money IMO. |

Adding a 10-8 rear to the mix would give you a sight picture that would shoot POA at like 200 yards. You are giving good advice, but I think you are confusing the MilSpec with the GI. |

It had the same tiny sights, lanyard loop, and minimal markings. The MilSpec has a lowered and flared ejection port, beveled mag well, and high profile (kings hardball style) sights. |

I was referencing what I had done to my Mil Spec, and forgot about the different front sight on the GI. |

The GI was discontinued a couple of years ago. Great gun. Sights are invisible. But, just like a Mil-Spec -- which has less invisible sights -- you'd want to do something with the sights on a "non-A1" Springfield if you intend to shoot it much.
That's a good price if the gun is in excellent condition. |
