| How good is the Sig tac ops? Is it the best deal under $900 with 4 Wilson mags and everything else on the gun? |

4 mags? My tac ops came with 4 mags also. I don't believe they are Wilson though. AFAIK Sig still has mecgar make their mags for the 22x series guns, I would expect Mecgar makes these as well. ETA to answer the OPs question. I like mine. I have shot it in a few USPSA matches and I have only had one FTF which I think can be attributed to the freedom munitions ammo I was running. I retrieved the round and there was a lip on the case mouth where the bullet was crimped in causing the slide to not go all the way into battery. |

How good is the Sig tac ops? I think they can be hit or miss. I've posted on here the prior issues I've had with my Tac Ops and SIG's customer service. In short, the SIG guys are armorers, not gunsmiths and don't understand how to fix a 1911. If your gun has issues, they'll just replace parts and "hope" that fixes the problem. Over the past two years, several of my co-workers purchased other Tac Ops. Out of the sample of 6 (including mine) 2 had to be sent back to SIG more than once. Two of those guys don't shoot much, so I wouldn't be fully satisfied their guns work 100%. The main issues we saw with the SIG Tac Ops are tight chambers, tight extractors, slide stop issues, and bad magazines. My 4 mags were Checkmates. They work 100% in all my 1911's. A co-worker had 4 Checkmate mags that wouldn't work in any gun. After he sent his gun back the second time, SIG started sending out Wilson mags with the Tac Ops. I like my Tac Ops now. I should, cause I could have bought a TRP for the amount of parts and work I have into it. And it still won't feed certain factory HP ammo, or lead reloads. I'd recommend getting a Colt or Springfield. Unless you like to gamble.

On the sig web site it says 4 Wilson mags in bold text Not that I doubt what you are seeing, but do you have a link to that page that says that? I looked at the tacops and tacops tb pages and see no mention of Wilson Combat. I also own a few Wilson Combat mags and the Wilson mags I own look nothing like the mags that came with my tacops tb. Different dull steel finish and they say WILSON COMBAT really big on the sides of the square baseplate, the mags that came with my tacops have stepped baseplates with no name on them and the bodies of the mags are shiny. |

The only thing I can think is that for some reason they give the LEO guns Wilson mags instead of their own Sig 1911 mags they put in the "civilian" packages. I'm going by my LGS this afternoon, I can ask my friend there if their LEO Sig tacops pistols have Wilson mags or if they have the regular Sig mags. |

I have a Tac Ops with the threaded barrel. Originally, I only bought it as a suppressor host for my TiRant 45 but after shooting it for a while I have come to love the thing. Holsters are a bit of a pain to find because Sig changed the design on the outside and lights can be a pain in the ass to get on the rail come to find out.
Also, mine came with 4 mags.....Sig mags, not Wilsons, maybe LEO deals are different? |

Just got back from the LGS. They had one LEO program tacops carry in stock. We cracked open the box and sure enough same Sig mags as mine came with. No Wilson Combat mags.
This was a tacops "carry" (shorter slide) though and not a tb or a regular tacops. They also had a two tone Sig 1911 on the LEO program and it too had regular Sig magazines in it as well. Perhaps these normal Sig mags are made by Wilson Combat? They look totally different than the Wilson marked mags I have... that is what throws me for a loop. The Wilson mags I own have a dull finish and have two big inspection slots with the Wilson Combat baseplates whereas all these Sig mags have a glossy, almost chrome-ish finish and have staggered round inspection holes and unmarked base plates. |

I just picked my regular TacOps up this month and it runs good so far. I only have 150 rounds through it, but it feeds so smoothly and ejection is so consistent that I trust it as a defensive pistol already. Not sure who makes the mags, but mine aren't Wilson. They work well so far, though.
When I hold the barrel and drop a .45 round in, it's got almost as much play as in my Glock barrel, so they either opened up their tight chambers or I got a little lucky. I've also heard that the Sig EE is a flawed design evident by erratic ejection and FTE's, however mine ejects very consistently to my 3:30-4:00, about 7 feet. It'll pile 'em up for ya if you keep shooting one target. Also I can load up the Sig 8 or Wilson 10 round mags with some old Federal hollowpoints I've had kicking around, and ever-so-slowly lower the slide into battery and the Sig will feed them all the way to battery. It's confidence-inspiring. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about these 1911s, but if you get one that's not perfect, you aren't completely SOL because it's a 1911 and there are a whole lot of people that can help you make it work, not just Sig. It's a gamble, but mine is my favorite pistol so far. Really good deal for the quality you get. I'm replacing my extractor with an EGW one and slidestop for a non-mim one, but I've been impressed. Have fun deciding. |
