For some reason which I'm sure everyone here understands,  I have an itch for my first 1911. CDNN has a Para Ordinance Expert Commander for $400. Also eyeing a Springfield range officer.

Any suggestions for a 1911 cherry popper?

I would steer clear of para.  The springer is a better gun.

If it's only between those two, the Springfield is by far and away the superior pistol.

Recently reviewed in American Rifleman, perhaps you saw this.  Looks like a pretty good deal for the money.

Grabagun has the Remington R1, its $425 after rebate.  The stainless is around $494 after rebate.  Shippings around $5 too

I got the R1 and love it.
The Springfield is pretty close now in price at CDNN. (Where I got mine)

Springfield is a series 70 pistol. No contest, why add parts you don't need?
Remington is series 80 stuff. I admit i'm an old fart, but having been a 1911 fan since the 60's,i can't make myself buy one,any brand with a extra safety, that is.

Great.  Thanks guys.  Looks like I have some reading up to do. In the meantime,  will probably go with a Springfield. Either Range officer or milspec.

Of course,  those kimbers look pretty nice...

That Ed Brown special forces gun in the G&A review is not to shabby either.

I think you would be happy with the Springfield for the money spent.

Of your two choices, I would get the Springfield. I would avoid the Para at all cost if new to the platform.

You can't go wrong with the Springfield RO for a first 1911.
