Well, long story short, used to have a 1911.....long time ago, Now I own exclusively 9MM (HK, SIG) but yesterday, got to shoot my buddies SIG 1911 (his issued duty weapon, which I thought weird) anyway, I was really impressed with it. and damnit, I want another 1911......

I have mixed feelings about the SIG's....The external extractor just doesnt seem....1911'ish to me....but they seem to have some solid offerings....there seems to be quite a few options anymore, Remington, Springfield, SIG, COLT.... trying to keep it right around 1000....with a rail.

If I really had my way, Id get the new M45a1....but I cant afford that shiiiat

Damnit! this hobby sucks!!!

Seriously looking at the COLT XSE Series....right at 1000 on Buds...

If you liked that particular Sig , why not get a Sig?

BTW
Your going to hear the same responses as with any other "which 1911?" Thread

There is truth to this.

I'd of spent less over the years if I had bought a TRP off the bat before working my way up to one.

This.

I got a TRP operator for $1400

You could probably get a Long Beach or MC Operator for less than that.

Yes it does. First post has all the info op needs.

OP loves that Colt but dosent have the coin. So save up and get it when you can.

Buy once Cry once.

OP can spend 3 times the cost of the colt over the years till he gets what he wants.

Been there done that.

Yeah, but think of all the fun you'd've missed.

Idk.  I think some of the enjoyment of owning a 1911 is tweaking it to your liking as you go.   Not many people can drop 2 or 3k right off the bat.   I consider my 1911 as my cherished hobby and love the road I'm driving down.

But I carry my sig or glock daily.  But that's a different topic.

I'm in the same position as you OP. It seems like you get a lot for the money with the sigs. And they are tightly fitted. But for the extra 400 bucks you can get a TRP. That's a couple range trips. Or for 2k you can get a dan wesson valor and really get a lot for your money. It's tough to decide what price point to settle on but all of these offer a lot of value.

An MC Operator would be a solid choice in that price range.

Just curious, do you see many Long Beach Operators at the LGS? I have one, but have never seen another one in the wild.

SIG manufactures 1911s that are at least as good as any others in their price range and better than many.

They are nice, I guess im just being OCD when it comes to the external extractor, just doesn't seem "1911ish" to me I will say the one my buddy has has a very smooth action and very nice trigger.

I mentioned the Colt Rail gun (XSE series) in my original post, but a lot of you are recommending the Springfield TRP....are you guys saying the TRP is better quality than the Colt? the Colt seems to be right around 1000, but the TRP is more?

Go post crap like that in GD. You've been here long enough to know better.

-------------------------------------------------------

Buy once cry once as the other poster mentioned means just get it over with, yes, the money will hurt at first, but only at first, you'll only have to buy it once, after that, you'll have what you want, and you know you want it. So, live a little and get it! Post pics! GUN PORN! Dinner pic, you know the rules.

There are plenty of guys here who have sold 1911's prior, really regretted it, and been right where you are now. Bite the bullet and solve the problem.

True that. Unfortunately, for most of us, we figure that out too late, and a few k into several guns until we get to what we wanted to get to begin with for that magic V8 moment.

My son has a stock XSE(non rail) and it runs perfect bone stock.

And I agree.  A 1911 just doesn't look right with an external extractor.

Had the same bug as OP for a couple of years.  Couldn't swing a premium 1911 price wise and last black Friday I got this one for $799 from PSA.

Love shooting this gun and has been my EDC for about 10 months.

In the beginning, Rolls Royce had a slogan that read: "The quality remains long after the price has been forgotten." The modern rendition of this slogan is "Buy once, cry once."

The COLT XSE is a fine pistol as is the Sig. When considering the opinions of others, remember that each has an interest in recommending that you act as they have in order to validate their own decision.

I am a satisfied customer of COLT and Springfield Armory. The majority of my 1911s have been from these manufacturers and I have been pleased with all of them.

Just curious, who in Ohio issues Sig 1911's?
12/14/2014 12:49:34 AM EDT

The Sigs are definitely not for the 1911 purest, but for the rest of us, they are darn hard to beat, especially in accuracy.

I've shot a Sig Scorpion and a Tac Ops.  Both were very accurate right from the first shot fired.
Today I was shooting my friend's Tac Ops and we were punching quarter sized 4-5 shot groups at 7 yards with 230gr Blazer Brass and it wasn't even hard.
We shot his Springfield Loaded as well and it was nice, but not as accurate and the trigger was gritty.

You definitely get a lot for your money with a Sig 1911

Check out the new Sig Super Target...  Wow, just WOW.

He chose poorly.

Glock 21 all day with those choices.

To your original question, the requirement of a rail will greatly limit your choices within your price range.

The Sig would be your best bet if you aren't flexable, but in my opinion, anything made by Springfield (Operator, TRP) would be a better pistol.

I've been a happy owner of Colt and Springfield. They've all functioned perfectly. Now, I own a pair of Colts, and no Springfields. For me, they were what I was after. You have to handle and decide which one is for you.

FWIW, even with my tough hands, the 20LPI of the FSC on the TRP was slightly uncomfortable for long shooting sessions without gloves. However, most Colts do not have FSC (why, Colt, why?), but those that do are often 25LPI, which many find more comfortable.

When it comes down to it, and I break down and get a railed 1911, it will most likely be a Colt...but not necessarily.
