I freaking love this pistol. I was in the U.S. Army for almost 8 years, always carried a M16A2, never carried a side arm, ever. Only shot semi-auto pistols as a teen with my father in "tactical" comp. a few times using his Ruger P89.
Yet, I can put 14 rounds in the head of a human sized silhouette at 35yards with this thing like it's nothing! I am almost sacred to mod anything on it. I really don't feel a "need" to anyway. I think if I do anything it will be remove the locking system. Did I mention in almost 500 rounds, zero failures...and it will even chamber empty shells!!   
Who else has one of these awesome 1911A1's? Had the same luck? |
| I actually like the factory target sights. I just wish they had a more common slide cut. Instead of the "BoMar" I just took some matalic neon paint pens and marked the top of the front sight post yellow and the edges of the rear sight notch subdued silver. Works great so long as there is any reasonable lighting. |

I get rid of the lock on lots of Springfields.
I like Guncrafter and Ed Brown MSHs. I use Colt mainsprings (22lbs) Colt, Cylinder and Slide, EGW, or Wilson pins And either a Colt or Wolff standard power firing pin spring with the stock titanium pin, or a Wolff extra power spring with an EGW steel pin. If you go with a steel pin, get the .073" or .075". If it doesn't fit, chuck it in a hand drill and turn it down with some emery cloth until it fits. |

Super high quality as well. Would also fit an EGW, Harrison Design, or MARS flat bottom firing pin stop. |
| Have owned my for about a year. Outstanding value for the money. A lot of people misunderstand the market these are intended for. Its an entry level target gun. It is not and never was intended to be a carry piece. Hence the adjustable sights, single side safety, lack of checked grip, etc. |
| I was well aware this was meant to be a entry level comp. pistol, however I carry it quite a lot. I don't have any comfort issues carrying it in my ISWB White Hat holster, it's accurate as all hell, and has never had a single failure. The dang thing even chambers empty cases! Out side of the "capacity issue" and lacking front strap checkering, whats not to love about it? I think next year I might send it to SA Custom shop and have them add checkering to the front strap and remove the ILS. Don't really see myself having anything else ever done to it. |

I don't know what the deal is. Probably me getting older. I have a Springfield Armory 1911 Stainless loaded, full size, that I sent in to Springfield's Custom Shop, to the tune of about $800.00 + improvements. Tool Steel 3.5 pound pull trigger, hammer assy. Front grip checkered, some other inside work that I can't remember, and a light tube type front sight. It shoots OK for me, but I shoot my 4" barrel Sig 1911 RCS with night sights better. Any ideal why? New sights on SA? Any help appreciated.

Thanks, Mark PS: Springfield bought new in 1996 0r 1997. check barrel to bushing fit and bushing to slide, then check barrel lock up to slide. may also try blacking out the fiber optic sight as some focus on that when shooting which is ok, but when going for groups. |

I got a Springer Mil-Spec because it was much like the 1911 I carried in the Army in the '60s, and loved it but my son decided he needed it more than I did so he's 'liberated' it from me. I looked at some fancier 1911s and settled upon a Springer RO and all I can say is WOW! Even with my old eyes, this thing just shoots! I love both and through all our outings using many different bullet weights and loads (I handload) both Springers don't miss a beat with decent mags. |

I believe these come factory on the TRP pistol (magwell version of course), the front sight is a dawson FO with green insert. I can't remember and it's only been a couple months. They are tritium. I'll check my cc statement and get back to you. The sight was very tight and required a little filing but it definitely won't budge. |
I had one a couple years ago. Put 1000 rounds of 230 gr ball through it with nothing more than lubing between sessions. No cleaning whatsoever. I didn't experience a single malfunction. The next 50 rounds were 230 gr Gold Dots and I experienced failures to feed using CMC 8 rd Powermags. If I loaded them to 7 rounds, I had no issues. The next 50 rounds were 230 gr Ranger T's and I experienced a couple of inertia feeds with them. I sold the gun at some point.
I just purchased another one today. |
