I have a range officer and want to add a fiber optic front sight but keep my rear target sights. Any suggestions? And will I need to modify anything.

Thanks

Here is a link to Dawson, I had to sand a little on the bottom of the sight, but that was it.  Works great on my RO

Dawson makes front sights specifically for the springfield cut.

In my experience, its not difficult to massage a Novak cut front sight to fit the dovetail either.  Infact, very easy, since most sights are oversize and require fitting anyways, the ones I've done have taken about as much fitting as ones made specifically FOR the springfield front cut.

I plan on getting a gun smith to out it in for me. Just need to buy the front sight first.

Thank you

if you are going the gunsmith route, you can also send it to Dawson and they will install and sight in for a fee.

For a while there I was putting FO front sights on everything.   Lately I've just been working with whatever the gun comes with, it doesn't seem to make a huge difference for me.

The exception is the XS big dot sights, especially the rear, which is worthless.  If I can find (or make) a regular notch-style rear that's big enough to center the big front sight in, I can work with them.

If you are going to get a gunsmith to do it you should consider getting the front dove tailed in so when (or if) you FO strand brakes you can replace it.
or upgrade the FO to a Trit dot.

Just not a big fan of staked front sights (lost 1, seen another missing... firer wondering where did it go?) )

1st the Range Officer has a pinned and dovetailed front sight.
2nd dawson sights come with a few extra lengths of FO rod and is user replacable

Keep the brake cleaner away from the FO and all will be fine.

So should I just go with a trit dot?  I can do either. Which trit dot?  I wanna keep my rear target sights.

Its going to be completely up to you based on what you are comfortable with.

A RO with the factory rear sight and a fiber optic front would be a nice setup.

If it were me, I'd probably get a 10-8 rear and a F/O front, but thats just sight picture preference to me!

If you go on their website, you'll see springfield front sights, their website is fairly easy to navigate.  Height wise, measure your factory sight and there you have it.

ETA: HERE YA GO

Height wise, no clue whats on there.  Width wise, with your rear sight I would probably opt for .100 width.

Sorry to ask again but which tri dot? And will it mesh with my target rear sight.
