I drive the area for work often and finally decided to find the gun shop. To say it's in the middle of nowhere is an understatement! I got to handle a whole pile of different 1911's including some super fancy stuff I would never buy and the pistol they built for Paul Walker just before he died. To be able to really talk to the sales guy face to face about what I was wanting was great. The receptionist called me "hun" and "sweety" several different times and I felt special, lol. Anyway, I did get to see some of the features I was wanting to see and everyone there was great.

Sorry no pics (other than the one I sent to my wife via text to start that conversation). I was in too much awe of the iron this round, next time.

Did you get to meet "Wilson Combat Rep" ?

What features were you looking for?

Yes I met Wilson Combat Rep. I have seen inside the cubicle matrix, and they aren't exaggerating about being very busy.  There were never less than 6 on hold and they all had their heads down working. The guy that helped me did have a "thank God I can get off this phone" look on his face when the receptionist asked him for help. You can tell they don't get much drop in traffic. No fancy showroom, just a couple glass cases and cubicles and everyone was pleasant and helpful.

I was very curious about the feel and size of the professional series guns and about the different finishes. It was nice to have the chance to compare all the different finishes at the same time. There were a few other minor things I was looking at and generally wanted to get a feel on it all. I've had multiple full sizes 1911's so I am familiar but this gun will be a tad different.

Not to make this a Debbie Downer post but I lost my very late term unborn son a few months ago to a knot he tied in his umbilical cord. We named him Thomas Sullivan, because when I was suggesting goofy famous people names that name came up and stuck. Since Thomas Sullivan Magnum was the namesake so to speak and a proud user of a 1911 I thought it would be fitting to have a memorial gun made up for my Thomas.  So I want it to be the best and right for me. Not decided on exactly what at the moment but when I find the right builder I will know.

I am sorry to hear of the terrible news.  That's awful.  My wife's coworker had the same thing happen.

Depending on your budget, two words;

Sorry for your loss, OP.  Some people probably wouldn't understand it, but in this case I think an heirloom 1911 will be a nice memorial.

I looked briefly at Heirloom's website. I will have to look at it again. Do they do ground up builds or just mods?

Thanks for your kind words.

Basically you send in a pistol and they rebuild it. Their site lists each package and what is involved.

I'd find an older Colt with the rollmark I like and send it in.

I didn't realize "Wilson combat rep" was a member here when I said I met Wilson combat rep....duh.   I met a Wilson combat rep, Nick, and he was a big help.

They laughed when I said I was in the neighborhood and was just stopping instead of calling for info. I have dealer visits in Harrison and in Fayetteville/Rogers, so I really was in the neighborhood. I would think almost everyone who has a pistol made of this quality and price is a unique and special even, but for me it holds even more meaning. Many people from this site have been a big part of my life, and I would very much value your input on this project! I want it to be "right", and that's not necessarily lots of options, in fact I kinda want it plain. I have a good idea of what I want, but I'm sure I will need a little encouragement due to the sentimental nature of this project. I will be back thru the area in a few week and will give you a heads up so hopefully we can meet. Thanks!
