I have a potential trade for a 1911 with a essex frame and colt military slide. Here is exactly how he described it.

"I have a 1911, Essex frame with a Colt military slide. Beavertail grip safety. I can put an extended safety and slide release if you like."

He values the trade at $700. This is a trade offer to me. So what say ye? Is it worth it?

I am supposed to get some pictures this evening that I will post up.

(I know squat when it comes to 1911's)

as long as your trading a jennings or a AMT hardballer.

That's a $400 trade, tops.  Probably less than that, unless it's some super rare slide.

Was it fitted properly by a competent smith? Are the other components quality or just cheap parts?

That's the difference between a $400 Essex/colt and a $1000 1911.

Assuming there's nothing we don't know about this--like he fitted a top-notch match barrel and used all buletproof parts in the build (not likely), these others are correct.  The Essex-based mixmaster would be hard to sell for $500.  $400, maybe $450 would likely be a closer value.

Of course, the right GI slide and barrel might be worth more--but only if you know what collectors want.  A 1924 slide could bring big bucks.  But again...not likely.

I value it at $400, unless it is some sort of super rare slide that has not been dicked with, in which case it is worth more as parts than a gun.
