I am looking for a 1911 and I really like the Kimber Pro Covert II, but my hesitations are that my dad has a Ultra CDP II and it is a bit picky with ammo, but I do shoot it very well. I want a 9mm but just noticed that the covert ii isn't available in 9mm. Anyone have any experience with this gun? Have a lot of Remington UMC FMJ and would be primarily shooting it.

Is there a better gun for the money? I like the Covert II because I like the looks of it.... Anyone have any suggestions for a 1911 with similar or even lower price tag?

Picture of the gun (to give you idea of the look i like): (No I don't want laser grips)

I always recommend a 5" 45 because they work best.  I don't even like Commanders.

I don't like anything Kimber makes for a lot of good reasons.  Their little 1911s are usually disasters and their Swartz safety is a joke.

I'd buy a Rock Island before a Kimber.

I had a full size Custom Covert and it was a great shooting gun.  Shot everything I put through it.  The problem with it was it was a rust magnet.  I had to have mine sent back to Kimber to refinish the slide and replace the sights.  I don't know if this was something common with this particular gun or if I just bought a bad example.

The kimbers I own run as well as any glock, sig or hk I own even my ultra cdp. Im sure like every mfg there are some lemons but of the 4 I own Ive never had a problem and yes I shoot every weekend rain or shine so they get used and not sitting on a shelf.

I've got an STI Elektra .45acp that is flat out awesome, its so accurate I get people from the lanes beside me asking what I'm shooting to get groups that small.  They are always amazed to see its a pink compact 1911 (they come in different colors).  Totally reliable, Heinie straight eight Trijicon night sights, match grade barrel, all the goodies!  They are in the $1300 range and worth even more IMO.

I've been wanting a Kimber Pro Covert II myself!  I can't say much good about 9mm versions because I believe a 9mm 1911 is an abomination but that's just me.  I love the looks of the Coverts and those laser grips are awesome.  I bought my sister a Kimber Ultra Crimson Carry II a couple years ago and it is NICE!  It was the first Kimber for either of us and I was really impressed, it was nothing like everyone warned me about.  I was told they were  unreliable and blah, blah, blah but it worked great.  The only issue we had with them was when my sister weak wristed it and got stovepipes but it never does that when I shoot it.  She wanted something even lighter so she chose a Kimber Solo CDP which, again, everyone told us was a terrible gun but I bought it for her anyway and, sure enough, it is awesome.  After shooting that gun I can definitely say its the best feeling and best shooting subcompact I've ever shot, it is phenomenal.  It's also expensive which is why I don't have one myself lol.  I'll get one eventually though, I haven't seen anything released so far that will compete with it.

Anywho, I say go for the Kimber Covert (the laser grips are fantastic, if you get that gun you will love them plus you can turn them off when you want), if I could afford one at the moment I'd be posting a pic of it right now, I think they look awesome.
