Looking to get into the 1911 family. Just stumbled upon a SA 1911-A1. Sorry no pics yet. It is used and they want 649.00. they are telling me it is a "Military model" since it is parkerized and has black grips. it also only has one magazine and it is the extended one. Looks kind of awkward sticking 2" out the bottom of the gun. All in all it looks and feels solid there is one blemish in the finish about the size of a pencil eraser of surface rust.
Good to go, or Keep looking? |

If it's a GI or MilSpec that price is too high. You could find a Loaded or Range Officer for near that price. This. For what you described, I wouldn't go above $500-550. FWIW, the GI/Mil-Spec models use a two-piece bbl. These do NOT lend themselves to accurate shooting. The better made models use a one-piece bbl, which are much better to shoot with. |

Does it have the tiny .mil style sights? If so, that is overpriced.
Did it say anything on either side of the slide? Could be a nicer model just poorly described by the counter jockey. I've gotten SA mil-specs in the 300-350$ range in the past... I'd be hard pressed to go over 450$ for a mil-spec these days. |

Thanks everyone for the input. I ended up passing on it. I did more local homework and found new ones for about the same price. So I went back and tried to hagel and no dice. So there is a very big show this weekend think I'm just going to head there and see what I can find. I do like the loaded.
I am thinking either SA or Remmington but not really sure unless I find that 1 Kimber that just has to come home with me.... |

Id stay away from a parkd gun unless its just for occasional range use. Itll get scuffed up quick (I just can't tell if that's sarcasm! Shouldn't there be a smiley there??) Ummm. Yes. If your main concern is the possibility of scuffs, that might be logical. Although I've seen a lot of scratches in expensive high-polish blue, too. And don't even start on electroless nickel. Really, if scuffs are your concern, you should leave whatever you have in the safe. No place else is...well...safe! But then again, since the military has been using park'd weapons for a real long time...it's probably good enough for more than just an occasional range day. |

Just casual use of a stainless will show handling marks and scratches. I'd also not buy the Remington 1911. The Springfield Loaded sets the standard in that price range, and the customer support it the best in the industry, if you ever need it. |
