Hello 1911 guru's! I'm brand new to 1911 building. I bought an inexpensive government slide, barrel, and parts kit and a Caspian frame. I'm into it for about $375. Assembly has been going well with just some minor filing and stoning to the trigger. Now, here's where my problem lies.

When I install the main spring housing and button up the safety, the grip safety is binding a little bit. At half cock, the grip safety moves in and out freely. At full cock, it clicks when you push it in and it gets stuck in the depressed position and I have to push up slightly on the main spring housing OR I can jiggle the grip safety and it will pop back out. It's functioning correctly, just getting stuck. I've smoothed out the three prong spring nice and slick, I've smoothed out the hammer strut and the channel it sits in on the grip safety. I've filed the tab on the grip safety all to no avail. I can't figure out what it's binding on.

Can anyone help?

The hammer spur may be snagging it, or the bottom part of the grip safety may be dragging on the top of the MSH.

Theres no rub marks where it meets the MSH.

Color the GS with a Sharpie and work it a dozen times or so.   The rub marks should tell the tale.

I installed one that was just a tad too wide for the cut-out in the frame. Acting just like you describe.

Luckily it was stainless and just a little fine sandpaper did the trick.

As Ken said; look for the rub marks.
