A friend of mine just inherited a ported longslide 1911 from his uncle, but it has absolutely no manufacturer's markings on it anywhere.  I've disassembled it and pulled the grips off looking for anything, but all it has is a serial number.  Google search of 1911 manufacturers with "A" prefix serial numbers hasn't turned up anything.  The indented serial number pad is not something I've seen before, and could perhaps be a clue about at least the frame manufacturer?  I'm suspecting this is some sort of gunsmith special, but any help you can provide would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Interesting piece.
I've seen some S&W 1911s with the SN in an oval like that, but as far as I know they always also had the company info on the frame.

I wonder if there could have been a problem with the serial number (inadvertent duplicate or a bad stamping) at the factory, and they could have removed the problem by milling out the area (it wouldn't have to be very deep) and then restamping within the oval.
Pure guesswork, though.

The way the serial number is struck into the lower kind of tipped me off to it.

I don't remember a Hardballer or Javelin being close to that long.

It looks like a custom job from the 80's.  That steel looks butter soft.

Hardballers were the 5" ones but then they did the long slide

Thanks, everyone.  This thing has some major issues with both safeties.  Grip safety doesn't work, and if you put the thumb safety on and pull the trigger, then release the safety, the hammer drops.  I'm telling him to not mess with it until he gets it fixed.

I have a Hardballer.  Worst gun made.  Haven't shot it in years. FTF, FTE, stovepipe every 10th round or more often.

AMT used the same stainless alloy (investment cast) for frame and slide.  Suffers from galling.  Tried several types and brands of lube, no help.

Easy to see why AMT closed their doors long ago.

AMT made these sorts of guns chambered in .30 Carbine as well.

Amt longslide or javalina depending on caliber. Javelina is 10mm.

Looks like the AMT longslide but either with most of the markings removed or made from unmarked parts. AMT changed names several times and parts were sold off as well. I know Numrich had a bunch at one point. It may have been made from parts that came from, or were intended for, AMT. They were mostly cast parts and quality wasn't particularly high.

I have two different lubes I recommend you try on the Old AMT's and any other stainless steel frame and slide semiauto.

One is Tetra Gun Grease.

The other is Prolix Xtra-T Lube. It is about half way between an oil and a thick grease.

They work for "normal" guns as well, but as another poster stated these older all Stainless steel pistols had a galling problem.

This, AMT longslide with aftermarket (and poorly machined) porting.

Man, that thing has to have a 7" barrel.
