So Long story short, I had this Springfield Loaded last year, had a kaboom/ case head separation from a bad reload. The gun smith I took it to said I was good, just lucky that I still have a hand. Since then, I've been able to put about 200 rounds or so downrange and it was pretty flawless.
So my friend at the gun shop I worked at knew everything that happened with the kaboom, and this weekend he traded a Colt Series 80 for my Springfield, and in turn I threw him a box of ammo, 2 chip McCormicks mags, new hogue wrap arounds, and probably another 15 or so home defense rounds I had. So he started cleaning it, and I guess the slide locked up, he dyed it (This is coming straight from him, I haven't seen it in person yet and hadn't noticed it myself.) Turns out that another gun smith since Saturday has taken a gander at the pistol, and he says that the slide is warped and could have messed with the barrel. I have already dropped an email to Springfield asking for a shipping label and all that good stuff so I could make it right on my end. But either way I'm going to have to pay for a slide since it was a reload that set the gun off. I am doing my best to keep him in the loop every step of the way so I can get this taken care of. Now for my question: Is there a good place to find used slides for a reasonable price? Any direction you can point me to? I appreciate it gents. |
I've found a couple that I'm looking at, one of which is a new Wilson Combat slide, so I'm probably going to pick it up soon. Problem is the guy now wants me to customize the gun for him, IE night sights, cerakote, new barrel, and all the fixings. This should be a fun ordeal, but I'm getting the gun back tonight and returning his to him.

Exactly what is happening tonight! I saw those slides! I'll have to grab one here soon. Quoted:

Give him back his Colt and take the SA back. Fix the SA or sell the frame. Buy new pistol. Exactly what is happening tonight! I saw those slides! I'll have to grab one here soon. I was going to tell you the same thing when I saw the "he now wants me to customize..."....RUN RUN RUN from this shit storm. |

I probably just need to take a video of the slide since I am in no way a gun smith He claims warped, but then this guy couldn't tell you the difference between a M&P vs a Glock. So they dyed the slide and frame to see whether it was the slide or frame that was "warped." Now when I got the pistol back the other night, I disassembled it, and checked it out. I set it on a flat counter and I did feel a little bit of wobble (for lack of a better term) when I was doing a seesaw on the front and rear of the slide. To be honest, I feel that I made my end of the trade right by just giving his colt back to him, and I was surprised that he gave me my pistol back with the 50 rounds of ammo I traded for his Colt. So no real hard feelings on him, his gun smith is the one trying to get money out of me. Needless to say I'm done with that crowd. And Springfield did email me back, so I'm going to be calling them today hopefully so I can get that thing sent out next week. PS, I hate not having a working gun, much less 2 since I have a S&W 13-2 being un-bubbafied right now. |

Exactly. After all this, it'll be a long, cold hard day in hell before I go back to that gun shop.
Gun shoots great even with the slide buggered up! If I lube it up really good, it won't really hang up, but after about 50 or so rounds, it will fail to return to battery. I've been shooting decent groups at 25 feet and quarter sized at 15 ft, so still not complaining! I'll take video of that bad boy tonight and get it upload here. Once I get a chance today (Monday in the IT world always sucks), I'll call Springfield and get it sent out. |
