This may be old news, I don't spend any time here in the pistol forums, but I see Colt is selling "Gold Cup" 1911s again. They are Series 80. Are these new ones any good? Or do you think a fellow would be better off buying as used Series 70? There only seems to be about $100-$200 difference.
ETA: Does anyone know, what's the trigger weight on them? |

Any good for what? As much as I love my 70s GCNM there are probably better choices for personal protection and for competition. I think the main reason for one is simply because it says "Colt". Sorry. I'm talking about competing at Camp Perry in the Service Pistol competitions. |

I think there are better choices like I said unless the Camp Perry specs are narrow. |

No beaver tail, no night sights, no ambi-controls, stock grips, no front slide serrations, 5 pound trigger minimum, stuff like that. There are a lot of good competition pistols for sure but most sold as such won't fly for the service pistol matches. Again, sorry for not being specific but the Gold Cup is pretty specific, legendary, to that task. They just go together in my mind. |
