Also, Where would you folks rank Dan Wessons on the list as far as quality for 1911s? I know they're a damn good gun, but Im just wondering -- How good? On par or better with what other companies, etc. I'd rank them as the finest production pistols made. Bar None! |

On par or better with what other companies, etc. They are as good as any others. Dan Wesson (with CZ) invested in modern manufacturing/ building techniques making it the first 21st Century 1911 pistol. DW uses precisely manufactured parts with the highest of tolerances eliminating the need for excessive hand fitting used by other companies to compensate for variances in machined parts. The pistols are smoother to work the action of than any of the Baer (Tier 3 manufacturer) pistols I have ever used. DW's black "duty" finished is the only factory available tennifer type finish, which is important being the 1911 is almost all steel, but some companies charging more are still using inferior shake and bake. Even the other Tier 1's- Wilson and Brown do not compare here. Premium parts are used in all new DW 1911's, with the Valor having the best of the best. No inferior MIM parts there, like those found on even expensive pistols from Tier 2 Colt's (However the Colt Marine is reported to be very well made with interchangeable parts!), or the MIM ridden Tier 3 - Springfield. If I was going to go out and buy a 1911 it would be a duty coat Valor. Not that my old Colt has ever let me down once, but I have no problem stating that something else out there is top dog. |

I have shot nearly countless rounds through a Valor, but I am a Colt true believer. Best gun for the money. |

My opinion against Baer is based on my experience of broken extractors, and new pistols that slid like wheel bearings that lost their grease a thousand miles ago. I neither have respect for the company, nor have I ever heard a kind word about him and his products outside the internet. The castle nut follies was the last straw for taking them serious. quick search for those that missed the castle nut excuses and grind to fit low tier AR's Baer proudly stamps his name on: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_118/549878_Les_Baer_Castle_Nut_.html |
