So i bought a new Springfield Operator a few weeks ago. I love the gun, and she was tight as hell for the first two or three hundred rounds.
But now shes nice and broke in, it's gotten a little side to side play that it didn't have before, probably just a few thousandths side to side, but enough to hear it when shaking the gun. Should I be worried? Gun still runs like a top, but is showing a little more wear on one rail then the other, and there is a small machining mark towards the end of the same rail. Doesn't seem to hang up when hand cycling the slide. And eats everything I feed it (everything from tula, to Hornady hollow points). And there is no play in the barrel at all. Hoping I'm just being overly picky, and if its not going to effect function, or accuracy I don't care. I just want to be sure to fix it before it does cause problems, if it ever will. |
| That's what I was thinking. Absolutely love this gun, and carry it with everyday. And am more accurate, and far faster with it than any other type of handgun. Just hit the 800 round count with it today, not one failure of any kind. Just love it. I'll have to try and post pictures latter. |
| look at any other production semi-auto pistol out there, not just 1911's... Glock, Beretta, Sig, S&W...awesomely reliable and accurate pistols and definitely not "tight" guns. The super tight slide-to-frame fit only benefits those running frame-mounted sight systems (optics). |

My TRP was nice and tight when I got it new. A year later it rattles when shook. Its always reliable thought and still pretty accurate Same with my LW operator. I have had it less than a year..brand new it was tight as a drum...now 10 months later it rattles like a old colt. However with that being said its still a tack driver (despite some play in the barrel hood) and its as smooth as silk. I have come to appreciate the "wearing in process" as it seems the gun takes on a soul of its own. |

I bet a loose 1911 with barrel play, slide play, etc will still out shoot 99% of shooters. Its just not easy for a human being to out shoot a pistol. |

I agree...so many people now a days get caught up in the "tighness" if the pistol...while this is nice and a indication of being well fit...most of us will never be able to shoot what the pistol is capable of. Not to side track the thread...but chase45, didnt you have a beautiful well worn 10-8 and trp? Did the 10-8 gun have any play in it? either barrel or slide? |
