yeah i now it takes time. have that. so question anyone ever bought an airsoft gun to test checking on? i dont know much about airsoft (nothing really) but i heard the guns feel real. i am sure the material isnt well made. maybe soft. but at least i could get a feel for it before i start hacking into a real 1911 frame.

thoughts?

thanks

Quite a few have suggested practicing on a steel pipe.
I have also heard of practicing on flawed frames that were cut in half at the slidestop hole.

I just did two 1911s, for the first time one Norinco and one Springfield SS loaded. I have to say that it was not nearly as hard as I thought it would be, just take your time and it will get done in a few (6-8) hours.

I am very happy with the way they turned out.

ETA:  I didn't practice on anything just got down to it.  One thing I did on the second one was set up a soft copper wire stop.  It saved me from doing any refinishing on the SS Spring field, I had already planed on re bluing the Norinco.

Its not worth your time. Maybe it is, but not in my case. I don't want to spend hours/ days checkering my front strap for no noticeable difference, besides feel/grip. IMHO

Id just get some grip tape and be done. Looks clean and its removable if you don't like it. It does, essentially, the same thing as checkering.

I wouldn't take the time to do the work but I'd love to have it done to one of my guns. Not many guns feel better than a TRP in my hand.

Working on 1911s is fun.

I've done it on a few 1911's and didn't practice on anything before starting.  Buy a jig to get the rows straight.

10 4 as always thanks to arfcom community! Yeah I hear people saying just grip tape ect but I want to do it. Gives a feeling of ownership to work on my stuff. I guess it's off to brownells and see what they suggest for the job
