I picked up this Citadel 5" Government to fulfill my 1911 desires.

After owning a couple RIA's I trust ARMSCOR guns to be reliable shooters, I had no reservations regarding the Citadel brand.

I paid $530 + tax for this pistol, which was a tad more than a RIA tactical asking price. The fit and finish was worth the difference of $50 IMO.

To date I have shot the following with zero issues:

- 400 rounds of 230 grain ball - WWB / Federal / Armscor / Remington
- 50 rounds of Remington Golden Saber JHP - now my choice defense load
- 20 rounds of Speer Gold Dots
- 10 rounds of Federal HST (found them in my ammo box)

Magazines used:
- 2 factory ACT mags
- 2 Wilson Combat 47D - to be fair a majority of the shooting has been completed with these.

I have two CMC power mags on the way along with a 10 round CMC powermag - I will update accordingly with range trips.

Changes to the pistol:
- Had my smith remove the ambi safety and install a Wilson Combat single side safety
- I have a WC GI guide rod and spring plug to install
- Adjusted extractor tension - wasn't my idea as the pistol ran fine before hand, but the smith went ahead and did it.
- Strike industries PX-06 grips
- I have a set of RAASCO green micarta grips arriving today
- Traded some 5.56 ammo for the duracoat job - wanted something better than park as it will be a carry piece.

New shoes just arrived.

I'll probably rock the black ones more often, but like these too!

Yes it does. New one is on order.

I also just threw in the GI guide rod and plug.

Action is much smoother.

For what I have into this, I could of bought a sig or SA, but half the fun for me is tinkering and adding stuff.

I set my budget at 1k and I'm just under it when I include mags and a bunch of ammo.

I have plans for a commander size this year and the sig is the top contender at the moment.

I love mine. I had to put some Trijicon night sights on it though.  Factory ones suck. But i have around 1500 rounds threw the pipe and have had zero issues.  It will eat everything i feed it.  Why don't we have a Armscor directory on the handgun main page?   They need to show some love.

What model # did you use for the sights?

I want to do the same, but understand the Novak cut is a little different.

Got them both from Brownells. The front is a govt tritium Front sight .175 high 662-000-015, the back was a 1911 2-dot tritium lo-mt r sight 662-002-003. My gunsmith said the front was a bitch to fit. These sights made a world of difference for me.

Nice Citadel.

Been looking for one myself, every since I foolishly passed on buying an ARMSCOR built Charles Daly EFS (basically the same weapon, just renamed).

I especially like the look of the new finish with the Strike grips. Badass.

While not as fancy as some 1911s, it's a beast of a shooter.

Have you had a chance to test out different brand magazines in it yet?

yes.

So far:

Wilson 47D (x2)
ACT (facotry) (x2)
CMC power mag 8 round (x2)
CMC power mag 10 round (x1)

All work great.

I really like the overall look of the Citadel guns. Something about the slide serrations and sights I think. Based on what I am reading here, they will be on my short list when I look for my first non-.22 1911.

I actually like how non bill boardish the roll mark is.

this!

so many new guns have these horribly large roll marks
It's why I can't do a RIA one even though I like them

My sig 1911's are bad enough with their small one.

I totally agree guys. RIA really dropped the ball in terms of rollmarks in my opinion. Citadel, in addition to being a pretty cool name, hit the nail on the head with respect to the rollmarks.

I just picked up my citadel.  It cycles soft nose hollow points (1 gen hollow points) via racking the slide.  I will take it out to shoot this weekend.  But it is a very nice looking gun. It just needs to be broken in to make all of the actions super smooth.

ETA: I also replaced the full length guide rod to a GI rod.

I had a Officer's model Citadel. VERY nice little pistol. It wouldn't reliably feed all types of JHP's until I started using Wilson's.

Son #1 lusted after it for so long I finally sold it to him; it is his A#1 favorite handgun.

I don't care what anyone says, RIA make a primo 1911.
