First off, I would like to ask everyone to take the two minutes it takes and contact your elected officials regarding gun control.  Ruger has provided a form letter that is electronically generated.  All you've got to do is fill in your name, email address, etc.  The letter will be automatically sent to your local and Federal officials.

OK.  On to the pics.

The gun is a true Commander length in that it uses a shortened recoil spring guide and plug.  Also note the short barrel bushing.  No Series 80 parts are used and the gun even has the fat Colt Commander-style ejector.  The exterior surfaces are nicely beveled and the interior surfaces are nicely machined and finished.

The gun includes two flush-fit magazines, a zippered pistol pouch and a manual.  Also included is the usual trigger/gun lock.

The box:

The gun and padded pouch:

Field stripped:

Frame:

Nice bevel:

Caliber marking.  Note loaded chamber slot on barrel:

Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to see and I'll try to get a photo.

3000 serial numbers between mine and yours, Ruger must be burning the midnight oil.

Ruger has really come a long way in the past few years.  That's a very nice 1911!

Very nice gun as expected. Mine is identical to my SR only commander length. A nice pair of 1911's for anyone to have.

Melvin, I've noticed over the years you have a pretty nice Ruger collection. I was wondering do you have some ties with Ruger or are you just the person that is designated to make threads like this to tempt me to buy more Rugers?

Oops.  I forgot to include the picture of the sights.

It's getting REALLY REALLY hard to resist buying one of these.

I want one in 9mm though so I don't have to add another caliber.

That's a beautiful firearm. 1911's are a work of art.

What's the writing under the dust cover?  Free manual from Ruger?  Fires without magazine?  Either way, it shouldn't be there.  Unless it says something like designed by the 13th disciple of Christ, JMB.

Ruger is doing good things on a lot of different fronts.

I want one of these pistols pretty badly, full size or Cmdr, but they're scarce around here.

Any chance of a pic of the thumb safety? It looks exceptionally long.

I have one of then 5" Rugers (nice gun), if I run into one of the 4" guns I'm grabbing it.

Very nice! I've been wanting a full size 1911 for awhile....since I can't afford a Les Baer or other similar I figured the Ruger is the best bang for the buck.  Plus I have a few Rugers and they are all great guns.

I think Ruger put the usual warnings in as inconspicuous a location as possible. Considering what could be written there such as FI Brazil or Made in Philippines I think the warning label looks pretty good! ;-)

If I can make it home while I've still got some decent light I'll get you a picture this evening.

But I like it!

Yes, that is a nice 1911. Too bad the grip panel is not pre cut for those of us that need to put in an ambi safety- I like those grips and I'd hate to have to replace or mess with them.

Looks pretty good. I'd kinda want one, but I can't warm up to many of Ruger's features.

I keep holding out hope Springfield will make one instead of that dreadful 4".

Here's a cellphone pic of the thumb safety.  I don't know who Ruger's getting them from but it appears to be the extended MIM safety I've seen on guns from other makers.

It operates crisply and I like the contrast offered by the mag release, slide release, safety and mainspring housing.

And I still haven't shot the thing yet....

When the hell are they going to release a blued version?

Hopefully right after they release a version with an aluminum frame.

Super sweet.  I won't be able to handle this guy until I break him out of layaway jail, probably end of May.  I didn't expect to find one on the shelf, but once I saw it, I knew I would be adopting a little brother for my SR1911.
