So i ll be in the market for a carry gun.

I prefer a .45 ACP and i m trying to decide whether i want an XDS or a 1911 carry.

I feel most comfortable with a .45ACP.

I currently own 2x 1911s (both full size) and a XDm 9. and i would take the 1911 over the XDm anyday thats why i m considering a 1911 carry.

Budget is kind of tight as i am working on another project.

i can get a XDS for around $550 is why its an option.

Any recommendations on an affordable 1911 carry? budget is around $700, but cheaper is always better.

Thanks in the advance and happy holidays

It's not hard to conceal a 5" 1911 and you already have 2 of them, so...........

Carry one and see how you like it.

The only reason I would consider one 1911 over another 1911 is the finish.

My carry 1911 is stainless for ease of care- sweatwise.

They are nice because they are thin. To me barrel length isnt an issue.

+1 Go with one you already own.

i would carry the 1911's i have but i m selling one and the other is a springfield trp operator full rail which i am waiting on a custom holster lol i guess i could give that a shot, worst case scenario i could carry the XDM.

i guess the question would be if you could suggest a 1911 carry what would it be lol

I'd carry the one I shoot best. And, that won't be the XDS. IMO these tiny guns are carried because they are comfy with the assumption they'll never be used or just showing them will be all that's needed or that targets will be at arms reach. Basically, again IMO, these tiny guns are chosen assuming best case in the worst case scenario.

Something in stainless- for purposes of simpler maintenance over a blued or parked gun.

Any 1911. I have Colt, Remington and Springfield. There are others.

You can generally find a lightweight Colt Commander for around $650 used.   These are pleasant to carry and give nothing up in mag capacity to the 5" models.

So you have a TRP and you are wondering what you should carry??? I just started carrying my Kimber Tactical Custom II which has the same types of features but with an aluminum frame and I am very happy with the choice. I was initially thinking of getting an XDm40 compact for carry, I still might, but I am pleased with how the Kimber feels on my hip.

If you are just looking for an excuse to buy something else, I would stay in the basic idea of the TRP with night sights, extended mag well, ambi safety, etc. but go stainless. I've done quite a bit of IDPA with that kimber and it is almost 10 years old, so it is starting to show some cosmetic wear from all of the holstering and unholstering. Not bad, but not like new. Stainless holds up better as a finish.

With a $700 budget, do yourself a favor and buy the XDs. You are not going to get a reliable 1911 for that. Not one you should bet your life on anyway.

A gun like the XDs against anything remotely comparable in 1911 and the XDs is going to win every single time. That is the truth.

It's a good little gun for carry. I'd lke to have one myself after spending time on the range with one. Easy to control, easy to conceal, accurate,  it packs a punch and it had zero failures.

I won't get in a pissing match, but the part in blue simply isn't true.

And if it's 100% reliable, why wouldn't he trust it for carry?
I sometimes carry a MilSpec or a LW Champion (both within his budget). My main CCW is a Commander.
I also have a RIA Tactical that's been 100%, but haven't carried it.

As Ken stated, if you look at the used market it opens things up even further.
The OP has 2 1911s already so he should be familiar enough with the platform to be comfortable carrying one.

I have 3 1911s that I bought all for less than $700 1 new Kimber pro carry II in 2001, 2 great used series 80 colts 5"

I carry all in a custom holster / belt from wildbills in NC. . It's a strong side leather holster with a slight can't forward . The holster has extra leather around opening and was made for the Kimber , but my 5" gun barrel just pokes out the end a little farther
