Is the circle of what looks to be erosion around the firing pin normal? It has me somewhat concerned.

Thanks!

Looks like a hardened insert.........................

Older slide?

If it's a newer slide without one, that is nothing to worry about.

Colt MKIV Series 80 with collet bushing, so the youngest it could be is 88-89'.

Might it have an offset firing pin opening bushing installed to correct off-center firing pin strikes?

Would that be in the firing pin channel? I didn't see one in there when I had the firing pin out.

the Clark offset firing pin bushings were machined into a blind hole from the breech face... you may see a parting line in the firing pin hole, possibly not...if the bushing was frozen first, they make a pretty tight fit...

my 1911s that saw a lot of USPSA use (>50,000 rounds) show similar bolt face indentations and marks... no bushings, just pressure and occasional gas cutting from  primer blow by

It looks like where gas has been escaping from around the primer when firing. I personally wouldn't worry about it.
