One of the local gun shops is running a Black Friday special on these 1911s!!!!  I know that Sig has a good reputation in general, but don't know much about Springfield.  Regarding both companies 1911s, which would you rather have?  Any input would be greatly appreciated!!!  Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!

I can't speak for the Sig pistols. I bought a Springfield EMP (Enhanced Micro Pistol) last month. For a 3" bbl, this gun screams accuracy. 3/4" five shot groups are very possible at 21 feet off a rest. This was with factory 230 grn hollow points. It does about as well with 230 grn cast bullets loaded with 6 grns of Unique Powder I bought a Springfield "Champion" two weeks ago. It is the all stainless model with 4" bbl. It shoots nearly as well as the EMP. These are not the 45's of 1969 issued by the US Army. I'm sure Sig makes a good gun and I KNOW Springfield does. I would buy another one but I'm riding high on mamas radar right now so best I cool it for a while. Good shooting.

I went with Springfield. They have more experience with 1911s, I've heard that Sig has been having some QC issues lately, and some Sigs don't fit a standard 1911 holster because of a non-standard slide.

I's go with Springfield.  Nothing against Sig, but IMO 1911s need to have internal extractors.

ETA, plus SAI has about the best warranty/customer service in the industry

I went with a Sig.  I'm not the most knowledgeable person in the world when it comes to 1911's, but the Sig had all the features I wanted and none that I didn't.  For a modest price, the quality is first-rate.  I don't have a clue about absolute accuracy because I've never tried for absolute accuracy from a bench.  The reality is, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice.  Get whichever pistol fits your budget and has the features you want.

I got the Sig.  Apples to apples you just get way more for your dollar with Sig.  Plus less MIM, Made in USA not Brazil.  Love my Sig.  Best handgun I have ever owned.

If it doesn't have an internal extractor then it is not a 1911.

People here have given you opinions on what pistol you should buy without knowing which models you are considering or what the dealer is asking for them.

You need to do some more research IMO.

Springfield wrote the book on customer service.  If you ever have an issue they WILL take care of you.

The Sig Sauer 1911 in the Cabelas ad appears to have an internal extractor, and bears a strong resemblance (to me) of a Rock Island Armory tactical 1911.

My Sig Scorpion beat the pants off my Colt Commander. Fit, finish, accuracy, and all around good feel. I like Springfield, but my money goes to Sig.

I've been doing a bit of shopping around lately as the 1911 bug has struck me again.  I've looked at damn near every Kimber, Springfield, S&W, and Sig in my county.  Here is what I have found:

Kimber has the most consistent fit and finish of all models, great across the board from their entry level guns to their top dogs
Sig's all have a great finish, nothing wrong, just not as nice as the Kimber's overall.
S&W has a very nice pistol, fit in finish are in general very nice.
Springfield sucks when it comes to fit and finish.  Dull spots on stainless guns.  Fit has been awful on about 2 dozen guns i have looked at.  From what I hear, there is a reason they have such a good customer service department - every 1911 they sell likely has a reason for a return based on the ones I saw in stores.  Their quality department needs to step it up, bigtime, in my opinion.

I would have to say that based on what I've seen, and focused on, I would rate Kimber and Sig in a tie for 1st for overall handling quality - fit, finish, and feel.  I'm deadlocked between a few models of each manufacture as to which I will bring home.

S&W is a viable second choice, and a sure contender for the money.

Springfield is not an option at this point.  All of them I've seen would need several hundred dollars of work just to make them look right.  I really do hate to say this, because the first, and to this day favorite 1911 I ever owned was a Springfield I bought back in 2004, but parted ways with years ago.  Big mistake.  Nevertheless, I think at this point Springfield is just getting by on their namesake.

That's my two cents.

i had a Sig TacPac and then recently got a Springfield TRP Operator full rail

i dont know if this is a very fair comparison but the TRP wins hands down

Don't own a 1911 Sig, but did but a TRP earlier this year, 5000 rounds down range later and it has perfromed flawlessly, buy the TRP.
