Trying to give back to the site a little, so here goes.
SIG Nightmare Range Report –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Finally got an opportunity to really wring out the Nightmare and get some data. Here is the basic summary- -This data is for the 5" full size model. -Functioning was 100% with all loads tested. -No noticeable change in recoil with round but design. -Accuracy was outstanding. (see below) Accuracy Testing: (Data shows 5 round groups fired offhand at 15 yards, repeated 3 times with each load.) -Fed American Eagle 230 FMJ .50"CTC -Federal "white box" Target 230 FMJ .70"CTC -PMC Bronze 230 FMJ 1.12"CTC -Armscor Precision 230 FMJ 1.38" CTC -Winchester White Box 230 FMJ 1.80" CTC Prior to aquiring the Nightmare my Scorpion was my most accurate 1911, the Nightmare beat it soundly in that department. Though, I still prefer the feel of the Scorpion and its mag funnel. Also of interest, the Federal American Eagle has again shown itself to be a true benchhmark load, it tore a single large hole out of the Nightmare and shoots 1"CTC all day with my Scorpion and is the most accurate load I have tried in my Springfield Champion Loaded Stainless as well. I was really impressed with that load again with this testing, the only downside is that it is loaded fairly light, I have clocked it at an average of 786fps from an 5" bbl. That said, a 230 .45cal bullet at 786 is not a powder puff either. Dont rule out American Eagle, you might be suprised what it will do in your 1911. In general, the Nightmare is a match grade accurate, good looking, precisely fit and finished 1911 and the fastback design does reduce "printing" when carrying concealed. (Although you MUST use flush fit mags to accomplish this, not the basepad mags sig includes with the weapon, I am using Wilson Combat stainless mags) I have been carrying it for a week in a Galco IWB holster and its working very well. The Nightmare has taken its place as my new daily carry gun. Hope this was useful for any of the guys considering it as a new aquisition.
