Saw this on sale and seems like a good deal. Been wanting a 1911 for myself since I started shooting a couple years ago. With the lack of availability though and trying to figure out what I wanted I haven't bought one yet
Heard some bad things about Kimber lately....I was planning on buying a Springfield Armory but they have been hard to find and when I do they are overpriced. What is the current status on these? Worth the $720? Good for my first 1911? Thanks Paul |

I have an old Norinco, an RIA Tactical, an RIA GI model, and an SR1911. The only one over $500 is the SR1911.
They all work great. Kind of hard to find an original Norinco, but you can't go wrong with either RIA or the SR1911 and all are less than $720. SR1911 $650.00 or so. RIA Tactical $450 or so. RIA GI is about $390. I paid $460 for my Norinco a year or two ago. I am a little fuzzy on the prices, but that's close. |
| My custom II has never had a failure in 6k rds. rides my hip every day and is a great gun. Iv never seen one have issues, but obviously some folks have different experiences. That is about 100-150 bucks less than I see Custom II's for around here, so if I could afford it I would buy it up |

It ate FMJ fine but the damage was done. |
| Can't say anything about the new Kimbers but we have had an older one Custom Classic for the last ten years. We have shot so many rounds thru it that I believe it needs a new ignition system. No failures I can remember with over 20000 rounds. Going to put in a C&S drop in system and shoot another 20000 rounds. |
| I think the basic Kimber is probably the best value they offer. If you get one that runs without issues, they tend to be more accurate than a comparable SA Loaded. That said, the SA Range Officer is better deal in that price range, provided you can live with the adjustable sights and parkerized finish. |

I have a Warrior and it had been great. I probably would not buy another one only because I think they are overpriced at this point..
I hear mixed reviews about Kimber too, but I ignore a good amount because a lot of people don't like kimber based on CS and when they switched to external extractors. If you really like the Custom II, go for it. |

Before giving a yes answer, some further questioning is need! What role is this gun going to fill? How often are you going to carry it? Is it going to be for play or for work? Hilton Yam is on record as not endorsing Kimber for duty issue weapons. Despite that, Kimbers continue to ride in LEO holsters at the same rate of Springfields and Colts.
My personal experience with Kimber is as an owner of a Series I Custom Target. The gun was made in early 2000 and saw a few thousand rounds before being sold to me in 2009. Since then, the gun has seen an additional 4000+ rounds with nary a hiccup. Another personal friend has run an early production Series II for the past several years with no issues. He stopped keeping track of the rounds downrange at 15000+. |

Illinois doesn't recognize the right of it's citizens to protect themselves by carrying a handgun, so that is not an option for me. |

| Had been planning on buying a Springfield but they are so hard to find. Gun stores by me are so overpriced and don't usually have me in stock and they have been sold out everywhere on the internet. I know they are on gunbroker but I don't wanna overpay just because I am impatient |

Out shoots the kimbers by far. My next 1911 will be a springfield. |

Thanks Paul I have a kimber target II and love it and the springfield g.i. model. it may not be a fair comparison but the springfield jams often, the kimber never. |

I thought the reason they were so hard to find was because of the 100 year anniversary last year....but i'm still having a hard time finding one and it's 7 months into 2012 |
