What a loaded question (no pun intended for those Springfield owners)!

All your high dollar semi-customs are good to go, as well as some low dollar options as some will testify. Plenty threads on that topic. I CAN give you my opinion -which is worth exactly what you paid for it- on my favorite out of the box, mid price range new 1911 brand-

Exactly.
One of the key points comes down to price vs value, and that will mostly likely fall into an opinion category
What does the buyer value in a pistol and what is going to cost to get that?

The quality of the parts- match grade barrel es standard makes a difference. When you get to the upper tiers of 1911s the biggest difference it the amount of hand-fitting involved. When the bushing, barrel slide and frame are hand fitted the accuracy is much better and the pistol functions more smoothly and is more reliable. There are other smaller parts, such as the barrel link, that make a difference when fitted correctly.
A 1911 isn't a modular weapon. If the parts are not fitted right the pistol has problems- something called tolerance stacking. The better pistols have parts that have closer tolerances, with the hand-fitted pistols being the best of all.

I believe they are. The Dan Wesson 1911s are in the upper level of 1911s.
