Should SIG be considered as a first 1911? What is their quality? STI Spartan any good? I need reccomendations here.
Thanks |
| I have an sig xo 1911 and I had a armscor tactical. Even though the armscor doesn't have the sti hammer and sear in it it is quite similar to a spartan minus the adjustable sights. To be fair the armscor had a decent trigger, was accurate and reliable but was a little on the rough side. The fitting was just ok and the finish was too. The sig cost more but it is a much nicer gun. It has a forged slide and frame with front strap checkering. The fitting is much better. Even though the sig is a series 80 1911 the trigger is good. I don't know what you would be paying for the sig but I picked mine up here in so cal for $760 plus tax and transfer and it is well worth it. |

I have a stainless and a blued Sig GSR and I love them both. Of my 7 or 8 1911's in the safe, they are two of the most accurate and well built of the bunch, which include Kimber, Colt, Springfield and Brolin Arms.
I seriously doubt that you will go wrong with a SIG as a first, second or third 1911. I have not had to work on either of mine. -Tac |
| I'm gonna put a good word in for any Springfield Loaded. I have a Stainless loaded in 9mm that has run like a champ. There 45s are also nice. But Sig is a good choice as well. I got to fire one a few weeks ago. Very nice fit and finish. Ran only a hundred rounds though it but it was really nice. |
| I have the full size sig scorpion and absolutely love it. It has been getting a healthy dose of Tulammo since I am saving up for my vacation in August, but it has had some American Eagle 230 gr. ball through it also. It feeds flawlessly with the Tulammo, and it had a few hiccups with the American Eagle, but that was only the first 200 rounds, so it wasn't broken in yet. In addition, I have shot some reloads, both full power and some light loads, and various mystery rounds. After the first couple hundred rounds, it has fed perfectly without a single hiccup. Accurate as all hell too. I would strongly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. IMHO, the best 1911 for the money. |

I have one of the older Sig GSR 1911's. It works with just about anything brass cased other than WWB for some odd reason.
The TacOps look like a killer deal, wish I would have picked up one of those instead. The SO has a STI Spartan in 9mm, it's less than perfect. |

Quoted: So the new SIG scorpion had multiple failures involving the rounds not fully inserting into the barrel. Tried multiple mags same issue. Any ideas If it's like my Carry Stainless, the "Match" grade barrel has a very short leade. Mine will run flawlessly on factory loaded FMJs and JHPs, but LRN reloads need to be seated deep or else the ridge of the bullet contacts the lands and the slide won't go fully into battery. Those LRNs need to be seated below the shoulder to work in my gun. ...At least that's what I've figured out so far with regards to my pistol. |

Kind of dissapointing for a $1000 pistola if you know what i mean. |

Shoot full power or +P ammo. There is a lot of wimpy 45 ACP out there. Check the numbers before you buy. Install a stronger recoil spring. I don't think underpowered ammo is the issue . the hang up also happens when you manually pull the slide back to load a round |
| I recently bought a Sig Tacops 1911. I have run over 750 rounds of hardball mxed factory ammo through it with both factory and Mecgar mags with no failures. Accurate and smooth as a Cadillac compared to my other 1911s. Would not hesitate to recommend the Sig whatsoever. |
