Should SIG be considered as a first 1911? What is their quality?  STI Spartan any good? I need reccomendations here.
Thanks

Sti spartan is an outstanding pistol for the price. Get it and don't look back

Honestly sig is probably the best buy for the money right now.

Sig makes an outstanding 1911.   The problems encountered when they were first introduced years ago have been ironed out.   They now make one of the better 1911s out there.  They represent an exceptional value, too.

I have an sig xo 1911 and I had a armscor tactical. Even though the armscor doesn't have the sti hammer and sear in it it is quite similar to a spartan minus the adjustable sights. To be fair the armscor had a decent trigger, was accurate and reliable but was a little on the rough side. The fitting was just ok and the finish was too. The sig cost more but it is a much nicer gun. It has a forged slide and frame with front strap checkering. The fitting is much better. Even though the sig is a series 80 1911 the trigger is good. I don't know what you would be paying for the sig but I picked mine up here in so cal for $760 plus tax and transfer and it is well worth it.

I have a 1911 C3 that has not failed after about 2 k rounds with mostly reloads. Its aa very smooth shooting and aaccurate gun. I'm sold on sig 1911s.

I have a stainless and a blued Sig GSR and I love them both. Of my 7 or 8 1911's in the safe, they are two of the most accurate and well built of the bunch, which include Kimber, Colt, Springfield and Brolin Arms.

I seriously doubt that you will go wrong with a SIG as a first, second or third 1911. I have not had to work on either of mine.

I love my Sig 1911 very very much.  I have a Scorpion Carry.  It is damn accurate and reliable even with wolf fmj.

I have a Scorpion Carry also. It's the best money I have spent on a gun in a long time. 100% the best I have shot.

I'm gonna put a good word in for any Springfield Loaded. I have a Stainless loaded in 9mm that has run like a champ. There 45s are also nice. But Sig is a good choice as well. I got to fire one a few weeks ago. Very nice fit and finish. Ran only a hundred rounds though it but it was really nice.

I have the full size sig scorpion and absolutely love it. It has been getting a healthy dose of Tulammo since I am saving up for my vacation in August, but it has had some American Eagle 230 gr. ball through it also. It feeds flawlessly with the Tulammo, and it had a few hiccups with the American Eagle, but that was only the first 200 rounds, so it wasn't broken in yet. In addition, I have shot some reloads, both full power and some light loads, and various mystery rounds. After the first couple hundred rounds, it has fed perfectly without a single hiccup. Accurate as all hell too. I would strongly recommend it. You will not be disappointed. IMHO, the best 1911 for the money.

The Sig all the way. Out of the 8 1911's I have, it is only second to my Nighthawk GRP.

I have one of the older Sig GSR 1911's. It works with just about anything brass cased other than WWB for some odd reason.
The TacOps look like a killer deal, wish I would have picked up one of those instead.
The SO has a STI Spartan in 9mm, it's less than perfect.

I have a sig scorpion carry. Absolutely love it. I start competition shooting with it this month on the 21st. Cant wait! So far PMC, WWB and speer lawman in 230 FMJ have ran flawlessly. First sig i owned and now realize it wont be the last.

I would not turn my nose up at a Sig 1911, I'd love to add one to the collection in fact.

Considering what SIG offers for the money and the level of reliability they provide, they are definitely an excellent choice for a first 1911.

My SIG has been perfectly reliable through the 600-700 rounds I have downrange at this point.   Accuracy meets my expectations for a sub-$1000 production pistol.   The barrel rides the link and can be pressed down somewhat while in battery.  However, I can easily keep all my shots on an IDPA target head at 25 yards, which is all the accuracy I'm likely to need from it.

I don't care for the scalloped grip safety, since it introduces a new set of sharp corners that need to be dressed down IMHO.   That, and the bottom row of checkering on the frontstrap needed to be softened, which is why putting a Nitron finish over the gun kind of sucks.  You have to cut through it if you need to dehorn anything, and I haven't owned a production 1911 yet outside of a Kimber that didn't need some sharp edges removed.   The edges of the ejection port are also a bit sharper than I like to see, but I'm going to leave it alone for now.  The finish holds up quite well to holster wear and corrosion (sweat, etc.)

The Series 80 components seem to be well timed and I left them in my gun.  The trigger was a bit heavier out of the box than I like, but some sear spring adjustment got it to the 4 pound range easily.  The Ergo grips do a great job of providing positive grip and are more comfortable and effective than a sharp pair of VZ grips, in my opinion.

Based solely on my experience so far, I would recommend it.

So the new SIG scorpion had multiple failures involving the rounds not fully inserting into the barrel. Tried multiple mags same issue. Any ideas

If it's like my Carry Stainless, the "Match" grade barrel has a very short leade. Mine will run flawlessly on factory loaded FMJs and JHPs, but LRN reloads need to be seated deep or else the ridge of the bullet contacts the lands and the slide won't go fully into battery. Those LRNs need to be seated below the shoulder to work in my gun.

...At least that's what I've figured out so far with regards to my pistol.

We were shooting factory FMJ. Kind of dissapointing for a $1000 pistola if you know what i mean.

Weird. My scorpion carry eats wolf, tula, s&b and reloads with no issues so far.

Sounds like the chamber needs to be reamed. I understand feeling let down; I would definitely bitch to SIG about it so that they make it right ON THEIR DIME.

Shoot full power or +P ammo. There is a lot of wimpy 45 ACP out there. Check the numbers before you buy.

Install a stronger recoil spring.

I don't think underpowered ammo is the issue . the hang up also happens when you manually pull the slide back to load a round

I recently bought a Sig Tacops 1911.  I have run over 750 rounds of hardball mxed factory ammo through it with both factory and Mecgar mags with no failures.  Accurate and smooth as a Cadillac compared to my other 1911s.  Would not hesitate to recommend the Sig whatsoever.
