What's everyone's opinion on the new production colt 1911's ? Any MIM parts ?

Very high.  I'm buying a Colt within the next few months.

Of course they have MIM parts.  Don't get wrapped up over MIM.  Colt does it right.

Only Wilson Combat doesn't do MIM anymore AFAIK, and those parts are easily swapped out if need be, but my Colt Defender is still shooting strong after 2 years, MIM and all. Not a single malfunction after 500 rounds so far.

Colt really isn't that expensive anymore when you look at some of the crazy 1911 prices out there.

Dan Wesson doesn't do MIM on most of their guns from what I remember reading.

I know that the Valor lacks MIM.

Thanks for the replies . At last weeks gunshow I looked at one of the new production stainless Gold Cups . Beautiful gun but I only had less than a hundred bucks on me .

I just picked up a 2012 Colt Rail Gun and the quality and craftsmanship on it is superb.

My '08 Combat Elite was flawless; other than I needed a S&A grip safety with the palmswell, and that one came without it. Ran like a raped ape.

I just wish that Colt would figure out how to get rid of all of the sharp edges.

The MIM parts in a Colt are:
The sear.
The magazine catch.
The disconnecter.

Everything else is forged or cast.

Years ago a gun writer (Jeff Cooper??) asked a Colt executive why they didn't break some of the sharp edges of the 1911.
The exec told him that they'd quietly made a short run of guns with rounded edges without telling anyone and waited to see what customers thought.
The customers responded that they didn't like the rounded edges and thought Colt had cheapened the guns.
Colt quietly went back to the sharp edges.

I bought three new Colts last year, all are top notch.

Lightweight XSE in 45, O1991 in 38 Super and Polished Stainless in 38 Super

Yup, the newer Colts rock.

FWIW, the MIM sear and disconnector are VERY hight quality as far as MIM goes.

They work together damn near as good as the C&S kit I have.

They even took a light polishing very well when compared to other brand's MIM ignition parts.
