#1 Forgive my ignorance.

I have a Springfield Mil-spec parkerized that I bought new about 05 or so. I disabled the internal lock via a website around then and replaced the grips (bought slightly lighter mainspring, which is probably irrelevant to this post). The pistol has a total of 300-750 rounds through it. The only issue I've ever had is failure to load my father-in-law's cast lead bullets. I don't really know what caused this. Feeds 230grain ball perfectly.

Sooo, here's my question: the slide kinda "saunters"  back to battery. This is my only experience with a 1911. All my other self-loading pistols seem to have snappier recoil (slide) springs. Is this normal for the 1911 platform? In other words, the slide is not difficult whatsoever for me to pull back, seems "lazy" compared to other pistols. Just wondered if this is normal or not.

I like the gun, at any rate!

The obvious thing to try is a new 16lb recoil spring which is the factory rating. Wouldn't hurt anything to bump the spring up a notch to 18lbs and see if that's more to your liking.

Are your other 45 acp pistols full size all steel 5" guns? The wt, size, shape of the 1911 is what makes it feel so much different than the majority of other 45 pistols on the market.
