Dad gave me a llama .45  1911.  He said he aquired it in the 1980's.  "Gabilondo y CIA Victoria (Espana)" etched into the slide.  Anyone have any experience with these handguns? Really beautiful piece i just never heard of the brand Llama.  It also has Stoeger industries "made in Spain" etched into the lower reciever. I have heard of stoeger but never had experience with their firearms.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated

Llama no longer exists, their guns in my experience are of low quality and their 1911 style pistols use many proprietary parts which are no longer easily available.

Parts are hard to come by. They may look like a 1911, but that's about it. The older ones (40's and 50's) were decent shooters, but the later models don't have a good reputation. I like Spanish handguns, but restrict myself to Star and Astra pistols if that tells you anything.

Mine was terrible, picked one up used on trade back in the late '80s, barrel bushing was loose, jammed frequently, and when I broke the firing pin it took me a year before I found one at a gun show. One of the first semi-automatics I owned and really soured me on 1911s for years, til i picked up my first Colt.

I had a Mini Max.  Similar to the Colt Officers ACP that shot great.  Got it for $200.   It took any Officers ACP magazines.  Can't vouch for parts interchanging with other guns because it never broke.

Had one that I bought new in about 1982. Lets just say it was not the answer to a maiden's prayer.

Sold quite a few back in the day. Llamas had what we call Monday/Friday quality control. They use mostly proprietary parts and are no longer made as mentioned above. I wouldn't want to bet my life on one in the middle of the night.

Thanks for the imput guys. I was really surprised with all your comments. Mines shoots great so far, only put a couple hundred rounds through it but no jams or issues.  The Llama shoots alot more accurate than my dads glock30 but we attributed it to being full size with longer barel.  Hopefully Im lucky and got a well built one.  After hearing how hard parts are to come by i dont think i will be shooting this gun as often as i first assumed

i really liked the one i used to own.
quality was good
looked great
it is no Colt though

however as mentioned above...parts are not interchangeable w/ other 1911's
even the grips are different
