My AMT hardballer longslide needs a new barel. What is a good choice for a replacement? It is a great gun, and I am not sure if I should go ez-fit, drop-in, custom-fit? Thanks! Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

How many rounds down range on the gun? <40,000? your accuracy loss may not be the barrel, but something else. If it were not a AMT, I would go custom fit. It has about 3k - 4k+ from me. It was a "Project gun" that I bought years ago, and finished about 3 years (or so) ago. It wasn't anything great when I started, but After I was done....It was crazy accurate, great trigger pull, and was one of my favorite guns to shoot. It was almost boring to shoot for too long. "Bam" Right where you pointed it....over, and over again. It was a pleasure to shoot, and I wouldn't change a thing......Until. I had a bad round. There must have been an unfelt squib, ....But it locked the gun up...totally. Took it to a local guy who I have had work done at before. Had to cut the slide stop in half to get the slide off. We couldn't get the thing to unlock enough to get the brass out. It wasn't the brass. The barrel has a split he said. Not huge, but enough to lock it up... I will have to have him cut it in pieces to get it out, from what he said. The frame & Slide look OK (It will be inspected & measured) but, Needless to say, I HAVE TO HAVE a new barrel. I am still a little in shock, as it didn't feel bad when it happened....like a squib load, but it must have been the one before that one, that was....followed by the last (Good) load..= Bang! Yes, the rounds were reloads. Run on the exact press (Dillon 550) that we always reload with. The setup is a dedicated .45acp setup with 2 other people using the exact same loads for their 1911s. the exact same loads have been/ were used by them (And I) for years....and at/in this very outing. We are investigating everything in the setup. In the mean time, I would like to get this fixed, but I'm unsure what to spend my money on. (A.) New "Drop in" barrel. (B.) New "EZ-Fit" Barrel. (C.) New "Totally-Fit" Barrel. Or who's barrel to use. I mean, if this was a $4k 1911...(A.) It wouldn't be mine! And (B.) It wouldn't be any question what to $$use$$. But it's not. I have A LOT Less than that into this gun. I can not afford to go $$FULL-TILT$$ into a barrel that is worth multiples of what the gun is worth. I will spend the money to get it back to what it was (If possible), but I am looking for the maximum "BANG FOR MY BUCK!" Any suggestions? Thanks Again! Tall Shadow

Fusion has a 7" barrel. Also, Numrich has them. Vast difference in quality and price. I bought one of each for spares for my AMT Longslide. Have fun. I am leaning toward the Fusion. I was hoping for some more options, but there doesn't seem to be many out there. I might just buy one of each myself. Use the Fusion, keep the ROTO as a back-up. What did you think of each of the barrels? Tall Shadow

Anyhow, Bob Serva makes and supplies absolutely top notch stuff. If your slide and barrel are both trashed...go with a Fusion unit...you will NOT be disappointed. |

As I understand it (Talking to my guy working on the gun) the slide is OK, The barrel is done, split slightly. I have not put eyes on it yet, I will (Hopefully) have it in my hands on Thursday night. I/We will be going over it (the slide) with a fine toothed comb to be sure. I would love to see the 10mm. I was going to go that route, but saw & shot the EAA Witness Match Elite in 10mm....WOW! All of the controls of the 1911, double stack, single stage (Frickin beautiful trigger!) and a lower barrel center line axis. The added flexibility of adding a 9mm, 38Super, 40 S&W, or a .45ACP upper, barrel & mag on to it for >$300 each...and I couldn't pass it up. It is truly one of the best & most accurate pistols I've ever shot (Much less owned.) TTFN! Tall Shadow

We just got done with our phase three testing tonight. Like a Swiss watch!!!! Brought it home and dehorned the rest of it and have prepped the wee parts for blasting. Then it's off to the finisher. |
