| I won't bore you with the details of my double stack decision matrix that brought me to this point but I'm pretty sure that I want to try this new gun. I can't find much information on it other than that it is supposed to be available in 2012. Do any of you guys have the inside track on this gun as far as when it's going to hit the market? Thanks. |

It's been out for a while now. Gunbroker
ETA: oops missed the double stack. I'm pretty sure it's out too. |
Yep. It's a little odd to me that they have a "2011" out there that is a single stack. I thought that all 2011 frames were double stack. 1911 = single stack and 2011 = double stack. I can't find jack squat about it on the interwebs but it looks like something I need to try out!

2011 Tactical The double stack model is the 1911 A2. I've looked for them at a couple of gun shows, but no luck finding one. I've seen mention of a Springfield double stack 1911 also. Haven't found one of those either. There seems to be no shortage of Para Ordnance high cap 1911's. I've been looking at one of thier SS Limited models, but can't bring myself to drop a grand (or more) on one. |

2011 Tactical There is a lot of potential for confusion here. STI called their proprietary double stack frame "2011" for the past 17 years or so. Rock Island recently used "2011" arbitrarily as one of their new model designations. They do have double stack models but they are based on the Para Ordnance design. |

I've seen mention of a Springfield double stack 1911 also. Haven't found one of those either. Those seem to show up in batches every couple of years. I recently saw a few new ones show up in town. Their frames are even squarer feeling than the RIA or Para Ordnance guns, which are already kind of uncomfortable. There seems to be no shortage of Para Ordnance high cap 1911's. I've been looking at one of thier SS Limited models, but can't bring myself to drop a grand (or more) on one. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of their LDA models. Their single action models seem to be getting a bit scarcer, and they are gingerbreaded up and pushing $1200 when you do find them. That's a ridiculous price for the quality of gun that you get. They would do much better to go back to their basic GI-style single action double stack, in 9, 40 and .45, and drop the price to about $650. Most people who are seriously going to attempt to use them replace the parts right out of the box anyway, so there's no sense paying for a bunch of crap you're going to ditch. |
