Getting some Tripp Upgrade kits.  Gonna upgrade my factory mag that came with my Baer and the two factory mags that came with my TRP.

Anyone have any experience with the upgrade kits?  Since different mags have different feedlips, seems like the results would be kinda hit or miss.  Thoughts?

I use them in all my Wilson mags. Never have any failures.

The springs are really powerful. I always thought the Wilson's were kind of whimpy

Yeah, well up to this point I have been using CobraMags and 47Ds and just letting those factory mags sit unused.  I finally decided I was gonna upgrade them with Tripp kits, since I love the CobraMags.  I've just always wondered how they work so universally well despite the variance in different other mag makers details like feedlip design.

I replaced my Springfield factory follower / springs with tripps super 7 kits. They work great, no problems after around 200 round
through 2 mags. The springs are really stiff though. The 7th round was very hard to get in at first, but eventually got easier

They are good stuff in my opinion. Makes the Wilson mags much more reliable.

I upgraded 6 SiG (reportedly Checkmate brand) 8 rounders to 7 round Tripp CobraMags...no issues since 2007...work great in most my 1911 pattern pistols...

I have some McCorminck mags, some work in my Colt, some don't depending on the feed lip angle of each individual mag, which vary.  Not sure if Virgil's savvy can cure that.

I upgraded my McCormick magazines with Tripp kits.  I've run them in action matches and they have been flawless.

Thought of another question about Tripps.  I know Wilson 47Ds are supposedly bypassing part of the "controlled feed" process.  Does anyone know if Tripp Mags are also changing the controlled feed mechanics?

Only in the sense that the cartridge arrives at the extractor sooner with Tripp magazines, because the follower holds the round higher in the gun than most other magazines.

I bought 20 Tripp Super 7 kits for 13 Wilson Combat 47D mags, 6 Nighthawk stainless mags and 1 CMC power mag three and a half years ago. I keep them all loaded 24/7 and empty them at least once a month by shooting at the range, never had one single malfunction. These magazines are used in 3 quality 1911's that are properly maintained , two Nighthawks and a Wilson build. I highly recommend them.

Yes, the 47Ds work by shortcutting the controlled feed.  Tripps do not, they actually take into account the geometry and points of contact the round needs to go through in order to go from mag to chamber.  I am still amused that the 47Ds are supposed to enhance reliability when all they are doing is throwing the rounds at the chamber mouth and hoping for the best.

So how does that work with an upgrade kit?  Seems like the variations in feedlip design between say a Colt and a Wilson would make that difficult.

Do you get what I am asking? I don't feel like I am expressing it well...

The Super 7 Kit gives you a much better follower and a much stronger spring. The follower is a hybrid type ,made of polymer and steel, the steel part makes contact with your slide stop and the polymer follower has the little dimple to keep the last round from jumping out.  As far as the controlled feed I do not think the "kits" factor in since the tube, "feedlips" are not changed.

So if you stick an upgrade kit in a 47D tube, will it continue to feed like a 47D (thus circumventing "controlled feed")?

Sorry, just having a hard time wrapping my head around this...
