Quoted: Recently picked up some used Wilson mags with a 1911. Didn't pay extra for them and was told up front they're trouble. Bottom mag won't lock into the gun at all. Top one won't lock slide back on TRP but will sometimes on Sig. Any ideas how to fix them? http://i1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb369/bjbloodworth/90cc3c65.jpg Bottom mag's not a Wilson, Top Mag needs a new spring. |

The Wilson mags need a bit of TLC if you use them regularly I've found. The springs need replacing at around 2k - 3k and the first sign of this is a failure to lockback. The first few times this happens you can clean the insides of the mag and it'll work fine for a short while but ultimately even that won't help and you'll need a new spring. After a while even a new spring won't help and you'll have to get a new follower as well as it'll have worn down. But this takes significantly longer.
The "good side" is that even with weak springs the mags feed fine. Not sure how long that'll last as I've never really pushed it all that far. |
