What is the hive mind's opinion on them?

I have 3 of them and I haven't even thought about checking out any others.  You cannot go wrong with an STI and you get what you pay for...

My first one was a Spartan and I have never had any malfunctions with it.

I really enjoy my Eagle though.

I was pretty set on the Dan Wesson, as I read nothing but good things about it, but I have seen very little about STI when I stumbled on them. They are in a competitive price range for me as well.

ETA - I still really love the DW Valor in stainless, Its not super tacticool, but at the same time is a bit more than a step up from just a plain jane government model. but what I am getting at is function, more than aesthetics.

Is there anyone here that could provide me with a comparison of quality between the STI Lawman and the DW Valor?

The only thing I could possibly dislike about STIs are the rollmarks.  I don't find them hideous, but some of them are a bit over the top.  They are solid guns for the money.

My next 1911 purchase will be either a Target Master or Range Master in 9mm.

So how does the lawman or duty one stack up against the DW Valor?

When it comes to STI, I have nothing against their 1911s except for the looks.

But I like their 2011s alot better, I wish they fit my hand better, cuz they are awesome.

Those are good looking guns. How does the double stack feel in hand? I have never held a double stack 1911, seems like it would be massive.

Haha, I have large hands in proportion to the rest of my body. Shame it didn't go elsewhere

I've got an Edge in .40 S&W.  I've used it to shoot USPSA limited class for the last 3 years.  It's really accurate and I've never had a single malfunction with it.  Probably have about 3 or 4 thousand rounds through it.

It feels fine.

muscle memory is pure 1911

( When I pick up a para-ord double stack,  it feels blocky and clunky,  but the STI is pure WIN )

+1

I actually prefer the feel of the STI frame over the traditional 1911 frame.

LOVE my STI.  Have a tactical in .40.  Its so smooth and very well made. I do ecerything w/ it n its never had any problems!

A STI double stack frame is not much wider than a standard 1911 with wood grips.  Just feels a little more squareish.  If you wrap your hands around a std 1911 you can fit your hands around a 2011.

Also, the grip can be stipled to get a better grip on it.

eta pic of grip:

if you mess it up, your only out $100.

Big STI fan.  I contour the frames, rounding them off to feel more like a thick round handle, and then slap some skateboard tape on them.  They feel great in the hand.

This is a 9mm single stack I got for my wife last year––also a fantastic gun.

STI makes great stuff.

I really dislike their fronstrap "STIppling"  as seen on the Trojan and a few others.   Not only is it not aggressive enough for my taste, it leaves the frontstrap too thin to cut it off and checker.   I have seen at least one gun with additional stippling over the scallops and that seems functional, if hideous.
