So two weeks ago I made a trade for my first 1911. Its a Rock Island Armory (tactical), so it has the extended beaver tail, skeleton hammer and trigger and adjustable sights. A pretty decent upgrade from the standard Rock Island 1911 if I do say so myself.

before I begin giving you guys my opinion of this thing let me say that this is in no way trying to start anything, just my observation

So the only other pistols that I own are a Glock 19 and a Romanian Draco (lol i know i just had to say it though). That being said I do not have much to compare my new 1911 to.  The first thing I immediately noticed was how much heavier it is than my G19, this was without a loaded magazine. I recently purchased a CMC magazine and loaded it up with all 10 rounds in there......now the gun is a lethal blunt object!

The previous owner had these really aggressively textured green grips on the 1911 when I got it and I just decided to leave them on. I really like the grip hold it gives me on such a heavy pistol. However, I personally plan to keep my eye out for some nice rough aggressive looking black grips to match the rest of the gun

One drawback I do not particularly care for is the rear safety. I am ok with it for now, but if I had my preference I would prefer not to have this half inch tail of metal there for aiding my finger in contact with it. It gets in the way of my right thumb just enough to not care for it.

I have only shot 100 rounds through it so far and that was at rock so i do not have a clear idea about how accurate the gun is....however i fucked up that rock pretty good It is here shooting that I can see where the weight of the gun comes in handy. It handles a lot smoother than my G19, more weight to absorb the recoil The one thing I did notice however when shooting from the draw the few times that I tried....it seemed to take to long to try and quickly find the front sight post between the rear.  Im going to have to practice a lot with this.

And finally, I was originally going to sell this 1911 but after shooting it one time I decided this gun is staying right here with me. As a matter of fact, after shooting it last weekend I came home, got right on the internet and ordered me a rail and a flashlight for it because after witnessing the power of this new pistol I want this in my hands if I ever encounter a home invader

and to illustrate what i was talking about

Rocks are usually pretty good.
Not sure what you are talking about the 1/2" metal?  If that is beaver tail, you'll be glad you have it.  The hammer can bite you a good one.

I bought some "bright white" auto touch up paint for the front site. Has its own little brush.  Works fantastic.  And there is no problem repainting it on should it come off.

Shoot away!

Congrats on the pistol.

Nothing wrong with a RIA Gov't model as and entry level 1911. I say that because I know 2 ppl who have them, shoot them a few times year and havn't had any trouble.
In referance to the beavertail grip safety I don't care for it sticking either. However, the old milspec type safety  can bite.

i think I am being missunderstood, the grip saftey I have no issue with, its the slide saftey, the tail on it gets in the way of my right thumb
