| What can you tell me about the quality of the Rock Island Armory 1911s. I am particularly interested in the 2011. Thanks for any help you can give me. |

This has to be the third or fourth time this exact same question has been asked in this thread. This is also probably the 100th time some one has suggested searching before asking about a particular topic. I think you'll find what you're looking for if you just search this thread (or look back a little chronologically). |
I looked at one at the gun show today and I was not impressed. It had 2 visible faults and if I was the vendor I would not have had it on display. I wont be buying one anytime soon. My uncle has one and it seems reliable but when I shot the thing it drawed blood

Nothing new that it happens with RIA's. |

Also, please tell us what these two flaws were? If purely cosmetic, remember it's a $400 gun not a Nighthawk. |

I have a RIA full size that i carry every day and its been a great pistol. It fires with just about any type of ammo i've ran through it and its fairly accurate even with the GI sights, stock barrel, and no extended guide rod. its obviously no Colt or Kimber at 25 yards but i can keep em on the target. just not as well as i can with the Colt thats had all the accuracy work |

Very handy, but for me like holding a brick. It goes bang, is reliable and did I say it feels like a brick? A 1911 feels like a brick? I think you mean Glock. No I mean low end, stock 1911s like RIA. Just don't do anything for me. Not a bad gun, just not a great one either, that's all. Now a Glock . . . a brick for certain, no soul to plastics. |

| I've had 2 of them, the GI and the 3"Compact. They are both good guns for the money. I sold the CS to buy some other stuff. The GI, I put Fusion 3 dot sights on, and a pair of double diamond grips from CDNN. I really like shooting it. I also have a Stainless Loaded Springfield, which has been through the Springfield Custom Shop to the tune of $900.00+. Like I said I like shooting it. I paid about 379.00 from Centerfire for it. The Springfield is a whole other deal though. |

Nothing new that it happens with RIA's. No shit...Strangely enough, however, my current springfield and my previous norinco have never done this. And before you make a smart reply to this as well I know how to hold the pistol properly. I have fired numerous 1911 models, with the exception of a true first run GI issue of course. And my uncle's RIA was the only one that did this to me...every time I fired it actually. |

Also, please tell us what these two flaws were? If purely cosmetic, remember it's a $400 gun not a Nighthawk. Well, since you asked I will. I won't bust the vendors ball's. I consider most of them as being salesmen and not gun guys so they dont look at things same as we do...but if the guy is a gun guy...well shame on him. Visible fault number one...I even commented to the salesman about it by saying 'this barrel bushing doesnt look good dude', he replies yea but it would look even better at $$$ money out the door no tax and credit card fees right? That remark told me he didnt mind peddling damaged or faulty goods. Onto the first fault. The bottom corner of the barrel bushing had a 'sheared' appearance. As if somehow maybe it got pinched or something. The bushing had at least an .080-.120 offset on the corner looking like someone maybe was trying to cut the corner off with a pair of bolt cutters. Anyway, after I saw that I immediately went into asshole mode and started looking for more flaws. The slide action felt very rough with 3 to 4 catches as I pulled it through by hand...not smooth at all. I am sure this would go away with wear...one would hope anyway. But the second thing that really caught my eye was I held the pistol straight out, muzzle down, and looked into the magwell. As I did this I noticed that the magwell seemed canted and the pistol grips were also not aligned from side to side. And there was a gap in the mainspring housing as well. Not to mention the flat opening in the rear of the magwell was not square. Basically the grip opening appeared to have a smashed look as if ran over by a truck. I handed the gun back to the guy. He tossed it into the display case and walked away without saying anything else to me. As far as cosmetics go with the exceptions of the mentioned flaws the gun looked very nice. If it hadn't I prolly would not have spent time looking it over. I understand these guns have a price point. But in my opinion 200 more bucks will get me that little bit of extra in something like a Springfield. That is just my opinion and until RIA cleans up their guns a bit noone is gonna change that...except RIA of course. I will keep an open mind with those guys but for now not only do I say no to their products...HELL NO!!!...the devil is in the details...but hey I am an aircraft mechanic so details mean a lot to me... And for you guys that have one of these and you are happy with it...I am happy that you are happy and I hope you never have trouble with your beloved friend. Don't take my post as a slam on your gun. Just the one I saw. And all of the ones I aint gonna buy. |

Just the one I saw. And all of the ones I aint gonna buy. Considering the defects I'm sure you could have gotten it for a good deal (or they aren't even salesmen). And fixed the 'problems' for less than anything else. Sorry, but gun shows aren't the best place to find a good representation of anything. In my opinion the majority of them peddle junk and to pay to enter makes it less enticing to me. I haven't been to a gun show in decades (a friend is trying to get me to go to SHOT show with him, maybe I'll go since that's a distributors gun show). |
