So last weekend I made the 2 1/2 hour drive to the Dallas Arms Collector Association gun show in Dallas. I picked up a couple of small items but still had a fair amount of cash burning a hole in my pocket. About 30 minutes before they closed I was trying to decide between the 4' S&W Model 28 or the stainless Beretta Model 92. As I was wandering the isles trying to figure out what to do I spotted a blued Detonics Combatmaster .45 ACP on one of the tables. I have wanted one of these for 25 years but the timing was never right. When I saw one I didn't have the money or when I had the money I couldn't find one. It was in good+ condition with a few small spots of light rust on the left side of the slide, some wear on the bluing on the left side of the slide near the muzzle, and the rear sight was missing. The seller was asking $550, but said he'd take $500. That was good enough for me.

I know it was one of the Seattle made guns as the frame is marked " DETONICS ASSOCS. SEATTLE, WA". The serial number, D 75XX, is also engraved on the bottom of the barrel and the underside of the slide. The slide is lightly engraved DETONICS .45 on the left side. I believe the magazine is original as it is marked DETONICS .45 A.C.P. not .45 AUTO. The seller threw in a rear sight that he said was Colt that I tapped into place but the notch is a little to narrow to work with the front sight. So, does anyone know anything about these. I'd be curious to know around when it was made, which model it is (Mk I ect...) and anything else you could add. Thanks

Very cool.  One of the very first ultra-compact 1911 pattern guns.  On a lot of folks' wish-lists.

Congratulations on your buy after 25 years of waiting. I don't know anything about this gun except it's cool. I like it. I hope it serves you well.

You passed up a Mod 28 for THAT?

Kidding, nice score. I don't recall ever seeing a used one for sale.

The decision was between the 4" Mod 28 and the stainless Mod 92. After I saw the Detonics .45 it was no contest. Took it out today and put about 50 rounds of mixed ball and hollow point thru it. Ran 100% but shoots way off to the left. I really need a new rear sight.
