Pistol is a Taurus PT1911 but this probably occurs in other brands.
I'll be shooting at the range, fairly slow fire and once in a great while the next round will fire super easy. I mean the trigger suddenly gets very light or I am not realizing that I am pulling the trigger but I don't think so. When things happen with a firearm that I do not intend to happen is unnerving, I don't like it.
This PT1911 has probably 4000 rounds thru it, has never been detail stripped but it kept clean.
Any ideas on why this happens?

How many other 1911's do you own?

I'm not sure how it applies but I own 3 other 1911's, none of which are Colts.

could just be gunk build up.

Sounds like it could be the leaf spring is getting soft, so the sear is not resetting fully every time. Pull the mainspring housing and if there isn't an obvious flaw on the sear, trigger or hammer, then tweak on the portion of the leaf that rests on the sear for a bit more pre-load.

Was trying to determine you level of comfort with a 1911 trigger without being insulting. is the trigger lighter than the others? Is it possible the gun is doubling? Perhaps sear angle?
