I have finally finished assembling / fitting up my first 1911 style pistol.  Since it is a RIA frame, Essex slide and a mix of parts from the EE and I'll even admit some from Sarco, there was a lot of filing involved to make it function and as of now has no final finish.
The question I hope someone on here can answer is what is the maximum overall slide length supposed to be?  My slide hangs over the frame at the rear about 3/64ths.  Looking at the lower lug engagement, it seems great and the upper lugs engage way better than minimum.  Is it as simple as getting a lug cutter and trimming the lower barrel lugs?
I've searched both books by Jerry K.and another set of "original" drawings to no avail.  Neither sources give an overall length for the slide.

Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

  Thanks

For that small a difference I would file the slide to fit the frame before I would mess with the barrel/slide lugs.

It sounds small but looks big and its a lot of material to make it look right.
